CHRISTINA
I park my car in front of Leo's old house. I'm not sure if he still lives here though, just getting a hunch.
I approach the doorbell and ring it three times before a security personnel finally appears their mini guard house.
"Yes ma'am?" he asks.
I grit my fingers together before I open my mouth, "Uhm. I'm looking for an Alves. Leo Alves?"
"Alves?" he questions, "I'm sorry, ma'am but I'm new here. The owner of the house doesn't really come here often either. And in my account, I haven't heard of an Alves living in the house. Maybe the old owner," he states straightly maybe because he wants me to leave immediately.
I whisper to myself first then ask the the security personnel, "Old owner? Someone new is living here?"
I never heard of the Alves families go bankrupt that they'll sell their own house or any property they own at all. In fact, what I've heard was that one of the companies where they invest to, had a worldwide international partnership across the Asian countries for the past years.
Right, maybe that's the reason why they moved.
"Yes, ma'am. Recently someone new moved here.... Just last year?" he says unsure.
Last year? Why of all the years just last year? I wasn't even able to say hi or goodbye to him.
"There's a different person handing me my salary too, ma'am." the guard adds.
"No Alves. Haven't heard." he confirms finishing the conversation.
I give him a grin before I walk back to my car, "Do you know where the old owner lives now?"
He shakes his head and say, "Tsk. Tsk. Tsk. Like what I said, ma'am I'm new here. Sorry."
"Oh okay then, thank you!"
I directly drove to my house to ask my maids about the new neighbors and I find them all in the dirty kitchen.
"Mommy Liz, did you know any of the Alves two streets away from here?" I ask one of my old nannies, "Just at the back of the Mendrez's from dad's Board of Trustees?"
I call her mommy because she was the one who raised me while my parents were busy with the business.
She pauses probably trying to recall, "Yes, I've heard of them. Before -"
"One of the maids here had a relationship with their driver," another rebuts.
Well, that's what happens in our village. Not that I'm surprised.
"Yes, I remember. It was Maria," all of us stare at Maria, our shortest maid, who was biting a slice of the apple by Ria, the fair-skinned one with flat nose.
Maria immediately finish chewing the apple in her mouth and wipes herself before facing me, "Yes ma'am?"
"Oh really?" I ask approaching her. Not to offend her that she was actually in a relationship, of course, I was just curious so I asked if she knew any of the Alves'.
"I only saw the twins," she replies.
"Twins?"
Then I suddenly remembered Leo telling me about his mom giving birth - they were twins - like Ivan's.
How could I have forgotten? Why will I forget? It was the reason why we started talking on the Exhibit day which then turned into a fight and we stopped talking to each other - for good.
