THE SEVENTEEN YEAR-OLD COULDN'T FATHOM what was currently happening. even if it was right in front of her eyes, it was still un-believable. with a pout on her lips, she watched as her mother committed the worse crime known to man.

Iris scoffed, swallowing the food before pushing off the counter she was leaning on, "relax, drama queen. it's just one strip of bacon."

Nellies blue eyes narrowed in betrayal, "one strip?" she scoffed, watching as the women grabbed way more than one strip.

"yeah okay." she laughed sarcastically.

the two currently resided in their diner,

all welcome, card and cash allowed.

Iris stood behind the counter, an apron wrapped around her waist as she moved over to someone down the line, filling their mug up with coffee for the second time since they've come in.

this place was like a sanctuary to those of color, coming here almost everyday just to sit and chat with the nice workers. by now it was almost rare to have a new person come in, the girls could recognize everyone by their faces, all of them being regular customers.

"morning girls." Ray smiled at them, the bell ringing when the door opened, then it slowly clicked shut behind him.

Nellie waved, pulling the high stool, to her right, out so he can sit. he did, taking it and pulling his wallet out of his beautifully sewn suit.

Nellie thankfully was busy today, the diner having people come in almost every four minutes, she often came back after taking orders and hanging them on the line for the cook to see, just to steal her daughter's bacon.

something she considered a crime.

"morning, Ray!"
"g'morning."

normally Nellie would be in the back, cooking the food their customers adored, however today was her day off. something she cherished, so why was she in the diner if she's not on the clock? and her foods getting stolen??
