The Ritual

JENO'S POV ~

Before we perform, Jaemin finds a moment to grab my clothing. After this signal we find ourselves a private location.

And then, "Hurry up Nono" Wait, don't rush me Nana.

We bring ourselves closer to each other and feel each others warmth so that we can listen to our heartbeats and calm our nerves down.

About the time when we first debuted as idols, around the time where we were going to perform in front of a large crowd.. This "Ritual" of us started..

Where am I supposed to go to again? Why do I have to get lost right now, when I am just about to perform.

Whoa, is that you.. Nana? I saw him crouched in the corner of the room hiding between his legs, he looked kinda scared and nervous.

Well, I couldn't blame him, it's actually the same for me. What are you.. "Ah.. Jeno it's you"

Umm.. "I am okay its just my heart feels like it's about to explode, so I am resting is all" he said clearly telling the truth you can actually see it from his face.

You have to get it together Nana, It's almost time for us to perform. "Lucky, You don't look like your nervous" he said.

I am just as nervous as you Nana, "Liar" he then started crying. I am not lying Nana, I said while I grabbed his hands then laid them on top of my chest where you can feel my heart thumping.

Racing right? It's been like this for a while and with this he stopped crying, You get it now? It's not just you who is nervous you know. Okay let's g-

Suddenly he pulled me and pushed me against the wall and said "Mine is faster" Huh?!? "But the sound of your heart kinda calms me down" he said this while leaning closer to my chest and with that he rested his head on my chest and began to listen to my heartbeats.

Umm.. Jaemin you have to let me go, I said clearly panicking with a hint of blush in my face.

"Let me stay like this" he said, with this I let him, If anyone saw us like this, I'd be pretty bad wouldn't it? I thought to myself.

"NCT Dream is next.." When I heard that I suddenly pushed Jaemin away from me and asked that's enough right?

With the confident look in his eyes he said "Yeah" He looks a lot better that he did moments ago, I thought.

"Let's go Jeno, We have a performance to do" he said

After that, not only we did this "Ritual" before performing, we also did it before dance practices.

Jaemin will find any spare moment possible, even during practice, to listen to my heart.

I went along with it, seeing as it improved Jaemin's condition. But after a dozen of times doing this, I wondered if maybe I was babying him too much.

"You're super excited again today.." Huh?!? "That's what your Heartbeat sounds" he replied.

Plus.. When he listens to my heartbeat.. It feels like he can see right through me, and I can't calm down.

And for the first time I was so caught up on my thoughts that I suddenly returned the embrace of Jaemin, where I wrapped my arms around him.

I wonder.. If I could hear his heartbeat too..

"Umm.. Je..." When I heard that I looked down on Jaemin and saw him blushing while I was hugging him, suddenly I released him from my embrace quickly as possible.

S- Sorry! I replied while having a ridiculous blush on my face. Crap! What the hell was I doing, hugging him like that?! I thought to myself.

Then suddenly he grabbed me and hugged me, pressing his face to my chest saying "It's fine, Do it" Huh??! "Squeeze me again, It.. really hit me just right" he replied.

Nana, how much longer are you planning on doing this? I asked. "Huh?!" he replied. You can't be planning on doing this "Ritual" for the next years, Right? I asked him.

You know, everyone gets nervous before performing, so stop getting so worked up about it. "I know that! The really jangling nerves I used to get before have pretty much disappeared, so I should be fine even if we don't do this" he replied.

You should have said that in the first place Nana, why have we been doing this.. "It's just our heartbeats take on the same rhythm..." Huh?!? "It's like the sounds, little by little, start to overlap.. Until it feels like we've merged and that makes it seem like we can do a lot better in our performances."

"I don't really understand it, but I feel more powerful standing like this with you, like everything will be alright. So I just want to hear your heartbeat... As long as possible and from as close as I can.." he said.

And after that he asked "You don't mind right?"

Then, I thought to myself, That's something I feel like.. I've also been seeking.. For a long time now.
