It was the season of heavy rains, and yet fully knowing that it could suddenly rain anytime, Taehyung still didn't carry an umbrella with him when he left the house that morning. And that was the reason why he was currently running on the pavement, his jacket over his head, looking for a café to take shelter in. It was late afternoon and the roads were eerily empty. Taehyung wondered why. Suddenly he remembered Jimin telling him about the weather forecast. He had dismissed his friend, ignoring his talks as those forecasts were rarely true."Why didn't I listen to him once? Why didnt I take the umbrella? God!" He internally cursed himself. He then spotted a café and rushed inside. A bell tinkled above his head as he pushed the door open. Taehyung looked around the café. It was decorated in shades of brown and felt very homely and warm.
"Can I help you?"
The honey sweet voice made Taehyung turn around. There was a girl standing behind the counter. She looked around his age, probably younger than him. A pink apron was loosely tied around her and her hair was collected into a high ponytail, fringes covering her forehead. Cute, he thought. A light throat clearing brought Taehyung out of his reverie.
"Um, hey," He awkwardly said. "Its raining like nothing else out there, so I just rushed in here." He noticed the reluctance on her face and immediately said, "Don't worry, I'll order something."
She just nodded, the look still not leaving her face. What was it now? He thought. Taehyung looked at her and realized that she wasn't looking at him. He followed the direction of her eyes and finally realized the cause of her expression. He'd left a trail of rain water when he entered and a small puddle was formed where he was currently standing, due to his wet jacket.
He looked up and trailed. "Uh, I'll clean it if you..."
"No, its okay." She shook her head. "Take a seat." She said.
Taehyung looked around at the plush sofas and realized that they'd be ruined if he sat on them. "I'll just sit by the counter." He said, signaling towards the row of wooden seats near the counter. Relief washed over the girl's face and Taehyung internally smiled at her behavior. He hanged his jacket on the stand and moved to sit on the stools near the counter. The girl slipped a menu card towards him but before looking at it, Taehyung stole a glance at her nametag. Joy, it said. He scanned through the card for a drink to order, a small smile playing on his lips.
"A vanilla latte would be nice." He said. The girl nodded and got to work. Taehyung looked at her while she brewed his latte. The way she pulled up the sleeves of her shirt up, the way she brushed the hair out of her eyes and the way her hands worked on the machine, all that was somehow addicting to him. His thoughts were interrupted when Joy passed his drink to him. He smiled at Joy and picked the cup up, sipping the liquid inside. Taehyung looked around the counter and saw a book lying, upside down, on the other side. Joy saw him looking and quickly closed the book, putting it away.
"Looks like I disturbed you." Taehyung said, looking at Joy.
"No, its fine." Joy said shyly and Taehyung smiled at her.
"I'm Taehyung." He introduced.
"Sooyoung." She replied.
Taehyung looked at her confused. "But," he said pointing at the nametag.
"Its just my nickname. Mostly my friends call me that."
"Oh, my friends call me V." He said and Joy smiled slightly. "Are you a university student or," Taehyung trailed.
"University." Joy said. "I go to LUU."
His eyes widened. "Wait, really. I never saw you around."
