Jungkook :
"Hello, Tee."

Y/n :
"Hi, Jungkook. I see you have a habit of calling at 9 pm."

Jungkook :
"How observant of you."

A light laugh leaves her lips.

Y/n :
"How are you doing today?"

Jungkook :
"Not great. She came to grab a few of her things from our
apartment today. She brought him with her."

Y/n :
"I'm sorry."

Jungkook :
"I cried."

She stays silent.

Jungkook :
"I know men aren't supposed to cry but I keep crying."

Y/n :
"It's healthy to cry, man or not. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise."

Jungkook :
"I just don't get it. I keep replaying everything in my head
to figure out where I went wrong."

Y/n :
"Maybe it wasn't your fault."

Jungkook :
"Maybe." - he sighs

Jungkook :
"We we're together for eight years."

Y/n :
"Shit."

Jungkook :
"I asked her to homecoming freshman year and she became
my girlfriend the next week."

Y/n :
"How old are you now?"

Jungkook :
"Twenty-three. You?"

Y/n :
"Twenty."

Jungkook :
"And you're working for a sex line?"

Y/n :
"I have to pay for my tuition somehow."

Jungkook :
"So you're in college?"

Y/n :
"Yeah. I'm a history major."

Jungkook :
"Tell me something historical."

Y/n :
"Everyone dies."

He pauses briefly and then laughs.

Jungkook :
"Not exactly good at lifting moods are you?"

A small chuckle passes her lips.

Y/n :
"I'm plenty good at limiting moods. Why do you think people call me?"

Jungkook :
"Why not be a stripper or something? They make good money."

Y/n :
"Who says I don't do both?"

Jungkook :
"Do you?"

Y/n :
"No. I can't dance. But I can talk."

Jungkook :
"Isn't that a high school musical song?"

She laughs.

Y/n :
"Not quite."

They stay silent for a while. Both laying on their beds, both staring at
their ceilings, both lost in their own thoughts. And then he speaks.

Jungkook :
"Have you ever gone through a breakup?"

Y/n :
"Yeah."

Jungkook :
"How did you get over it?"

The phone line briefly goes silent once more.

Y/n :
"I learned to be okay being myself."

-

Jungkook :
"Hey." - he says

Y/n :
"9 pm sharp. Hello."

Jungkook :
"I'm never late."

Y/n :
"That's a good habit to have. I'm always late."

Jungkook :
"Better three hours too soon than a minute too late."

Y/n :
"Shakespeare? Impressive."

He laughs.

Jungkook :
"I studied literature in college."

Y/n :
"Tell me something literary."

He pauses.

Jungkook :
"Everyone dies."

There's a long silence before she breaks into a laughing fit.

Y/n :
"Not exactly the happy ending we like to hear, eh?"

Jungkook :
"Happy endings are overrated."

Jungkook :
"There are no happy endings in life and there shouldn't be so many
happy endings in literature."

Y/n :
"You're quite the pessimist, Jungkook."

Jungkook :
"I'm a realist."

Y/n :
"A real pessimist."

Jungkook :
"You're telling me that you believe in all that fairy-tale-happy-
ending-true-love bullshit?"

She pauses.

Y/n :
"Maybe not. But it doesn't hurt to hope it exists."

Jungkook :
"It'll hurt when reality bites you in the ass."

There's a long silence followed by a sigh on her end.

Y/n :
"Why are you calling, Jungkook?"

Jungkook :
"I've told you a few times now. I need a friend."

Y/n :
"You don't sound like you want a friend."

Jungkook :
"What makes you say that?"

Y/n :
"Friends have fun with each other. They make you feel happy.
You act like you want to be sad."

Jungkook :
"Of course I don't want to be sad."

Y/n :
"Then don't be."

Jungkook :
"It's not that simple."

Y/n :
"She's just a girl, Jungkook. You can't dwell on her. She's gone."

He hangs up the phone.
