Mijo: Yooo lil sis, cookout today, my place pull up!
Was the text message I received early this morning from Mijo. At the start of the year him and Kyra had moved to a spot Downtown, so It had been a while since i'd hung out with any of them. They'd moved so that Kyra could be closer to her college since she'd decided to go back to school to study to become a physician, plus Mijo was doing his thing as a PT and had a decent clientele down there, so the move just made sense. It was still kinda early when we arrived at their place, so thankfully there was plenty of parking outside. I parked in the space behind Mijo's car and got out. I unbuckled Asia from her car seat and I helped her out of the car. "Mommy" she called.
"Yeah?" I shut the car door behind me.
"Can I go run now?" she asked looking up at me innocently, I laughed softly and let go of her hand "Go head, be careful" I said, quickly she went darting up the driveway. Voices were already echoing from the backyard, and I could hear that music was playing. I pushed my sunglasses up on my face and stood behind Asia with a smile on my face as she pounded on the front door.
Not too long after, the door pulled open revealing Mijo on the other side. "Uncle Jo Jo!" Asia called out and excitedly ran into his legs. Teasingly, he began looking around for her "I can hear Monster baby where she at?" he said, acting as if he couldn't see her. Asia giggled and hit his leg "I'm down here Uncle Jo Jo!" Mijo smiled wide and finally looked down at my jumping child.
"Monster!" he yelled chasing after her, Asia screamed as she tried to run away but Mijo quickly swept her up of her feet, causing a fit of belly laughter to escape from her. "You missed me?" he asked holding her up in the air, cheekily and shook her head no. "No?!" he began playfully tickling her sides. Since Chris had been away for the past year, Mijo had really stepped up as Asia's Godfather; he was so good with her and was still always there whenever I needed him, and Asia absolutely adored him, not a day went by when she was asking to see her 'Uncle Jo jo'.
"What's up sis" he smiled wide, greeting me with open arms.
"Hey!" I gave with a hug in return. "Where do these go?" I asked holding the bottle of Hennessy and Coconut Cîroc that I'd brought with me.
"Here let me grab them" he put Asia down and then took the bottles of liquor from me. "You mad early we ain't even start nothing yet" he explained laughing.
"I know! I had to get Asia out the house before she tore my shit up" We both laughed.
"I feel you, Trey and your cousin finna be here soon though, he just called me" he said as we followed him down the hall. I nodded hearing a little commotion coming from the living room. "Go through, Ima put these in the back" he said heading for the backyard. I walked through to the living area where Kyra's older brother Kenny and his girlfriend Siera were sitting on the couch next to each other and Ty was chilling on the two-seater opposite them. "Hey y'all" I smiled waving at everyone as they greeted us.
