To try and describe the emotions that Bokuto was feeling would be like a first grader trying to understand an algebra textbook.
'Can I come over again next week?'
Those words rang inside of his head everyday all day, never slowing down or stopping. It made it extremely hard to focus on anything, mostly volleyball. He would be so into his thoughts that he would forget to talk to people. It made everyone, especially Akaashi, worry relentlessly.
Several times was he told to sit on the bench to cool his mind because he was distracted. Eventually, practice had ended early because their star player and captain was not at his best. It was almost worse than his emo mode because at least that had ways to be fixed.
It was Wednesday, and Akaashi and Bokuto were walking home together after practice as per usual. They were only a few minutes away from the street that they always separated at, and yet Akaashi still had a few things to say.
"What was up with you today? And Monday and Tuesday . . . " He finally asked after gathering his thoughts.
Bokuto tensed at the sound of his voice, and Akaashi noticed but made no move to say anything about it. "Its nothing to worry-"
"But I am worrying!" He interrupted, voice raising louder than Bokuto had ever heard him speak. He was not the type of person to beat around the bush, so if he was worried, then he'd let it be known.
"Clearly something was bothering you. You have been that way ever since Monday! You-" Akaashi continued, abruptly pausing his rant while stopping his movement at the same time, turning his gaze to the ground.
The third year stopped walking as well and grew concerned. "Seriously, Akaashi, I'm fi-"
"Was it the kiss?"
" . . . What?"
"The kiss we did last Friday. Ever since Monday you have been out of it. At first I didn't think anything of it, but I soon thought more and more," Akaashi stared long and hard at the ground, gripping his backpack straps tightly. Soon enough, he could feel his eyes start to sting. "You have barely talked to me, or even looked in my direction. Even at lunch you seem distant . . . "
The setter's voice broke slightly in the middle of his words, and Bokuto's heart pounded. He could feel his chest get heavier. "Akaashi-"
"Do you regret it? Do you regret kissing me? Cause if you do, I would rather you tell me straight up than slowly distance yourself. That hurts way more than-" His words grew heavy, expecting the worst outcome.
"No! No! Stop saying those things!" The third year quickly grabbed Akaashi's shoulders and stood in front of him, Akaashi still not looking up. "I don't regret the kiss so stop that train of thought right now," Bokuto heard a small sniffle and he could feel his heart break. "Akaashi please look up."
"No." He said stubbornly, using a hand to wipe his eyes.
Bokuto removed his hands from Akaashi's shoulders and slowly cupped his face, forcing the second year to look. Akaashi was quick to close his eyes, allowing a few tear drops to fall.
