The Butterfly

Chapter 1

She sat in the school cafeteria, her lunch lying on the table before her. She hadn't touched it, completely engrossed in her own thoughts. She was snapped back to reality as her best friend in the entire world, Ruby, plopped down beside her.

"Oh my god, Cyra!! You won't believe what happened during gym class today..." "What?", Cyra asked unenthusiastically. As she started telling the story Cyra began to tune herself out again, Ruby's voice fading until it seemed a million miles away.

Just this morning Cyra had gotten another lecture from her mother about how she was completely incapable of doing anything properly. Maybe she was actually right, Cyra thought... her grades were slowly beginning to slip, the usual A's turning into B's and C's. Not just that but she had lost interest in most of the things that she used to be incredibly excited about.

"Hello.... earth to Cyra! Were you even listening to a word I said?", asked Ruby as Cyra realised the bell had rung and everyone was making their way to class. "You didn't eat your lunch again." "Oh well, that's fine. I wasn't even hungry anyway. But what did you say?", Cyra responded. "I said that there's this really cute new guy who came here as an exchange student from France!!"

"Oooh! Does someone have a little crush?", Cyra asked as they put their trays away and started to head to their next classes. Ruby laughed, "No, but I feel like he's definitely your type. You should talk to him sometime." "Even you know that will never happen.", replied Cyra.

She was a complete introvert and everybody knew it. The last thing she was going to do is talk to some new kid who was probably the worst human being on planet earth for all she knew. Little did she know, a lot would unfold with him within the next few months...
