Her back pressed to his chest. His body was warm but nothing could warm her up now. The cause was lost to her numb mind.
Mabey it was the rain. Mabey it was the fingers curled around her mouth.
Mabey it the scene unfolding in front of her.She couldn't tell. She was way out of it.
Her captor let out a low chuckle. Probably at her expense. Definitely at her expense. The sound of it made the hair on her neck stand. It sounded dark and demented. He was enjoying her suffering.
"l'm afraid I'll have to take my leave now. Although I'm sure our friends here will keep you entertained. ." With that he removed his hand and stepped back blending into the shadows.
It took her a while to understand, to acknowledge what he said.
A moment for her to realize that her mouth was free to protest.
A second for her to turn around and reach out for him, only to greet darkness.
The reality crashed into her like a wrecking ball that she was alone. In the middle of nowhere. With no idea of when or where she was. With what looked like a criminal gang up unfolding in front of her. And that terrified her to no end. She glanced back at the group of four and decided to try and follow him. Or at least get somewhere safe.
She made a move to follow him into the unknown only to freeze at the booming sound of bullets cutting through the silent streets.'BAM'
'BAM'
'BAM'
Her body frose in terror. Her eyes wide. And as if on autopilot she turned around. Her eyes taking in, absorbing the image in front of her.
A man perhaps in his forties, his built tall and strong and an eyepatch on his right eye. Hair that looked greasey and long from a far.
But that wasn't what captured her attention. It was the gaping hole in the middle of his forehead. What happened next really shook her. As if bringing her out of her numb state.
The body fell to the ground. A loud 'thud'. And then nothing
The silence that followed was deafening
Her eyes on the body.
His eyes lifeless .
Soulless.
One amongst the three wounds visible. Blood racing down his forehead.
Seeping through his shirt. Painting the pure white of it, a bloody red.
She watched in horror.
Her heart in her throat.
Her eyes wide and frantic whilst one the man.
He moved forward. Kicking the dead body as if killing that person, even though dead, still caused them anger. A loud carck echoed in his wake.
Her knees buckled. Legs trembling like it was her first time walking
Her back colliding with the cold, wet dumpster. Metal clanking.
And that did it. It brought the limelight on her in a way no one wanted.
She never liked attention. Nevermind that of a group filled with criminals. And a murderer. The man who was kicking the dead body stopped mid swing. His head raising.
All three of them stiffened like a wooden plank.
They moved painfully slow. Necks turning. Feet moving. Their eyes searching for her.
She hoped that the dark would hide her. But mabey the fate wasn't on her side.
As the clouds drifted away, finding some other place to bring life to, the moon made its appearance.
Illuminating her in a silvery light. Overpowering the golden hue that had enveloped them and providing light where the flickering lamp lacked. Making it easier for them to see her, and her them. She tried to move but her legs didn't budge.
She could see the leader moving but it felt like her fight or flight response had abondand her. She was numb. But what brought her out of it was shock.
One look at them and her thoughts froze down.
Were her eyes deceiving her?
Mabey her eyes WERE deceiving her.
Because wasn't that man.... that man who had kicked the dead body. Who was also possibly his killer, her friend? He looked too much like him.
Like the person who stopped to listen to her babbling? Wasn't that the person who bought her her favorite books just a few days ago?
Wasn't tha–"Rosa!?"
