Part 5 : Broken promise

You were standing in black room with nothing but yourself. You hated being alone in the dark. You started walking forward, anxiety in your throat. After a few steps, you heard a sweet melody. You headed towards the reassuring sound and ended up finding, a young version of yourself playing piano. You tried to communicate with her but it seemed like she couldn't hear you. Suddenly, out of nowhere appeared a small boy. He passed right through you and stopped beside your past self.

"(Y/n)!! Come out and play with me!!"

"I can't Boo, I need to practice my recital is in two days."

"But you're good enough already! Just come! Please?" Young Bokuto did puppy eyes.

"Okay..." The little girl gave up.

You remembered you could barely say no to this cute face of his. You watched the kids run far away in the dark, you tried to follow them but they disappeared.

"Come on (Y/n)! You're an amazing musician! Now you go on the stage and show them! I'll be there to support you, like we always do!" You heard on your right.

You turned your head and discovered a startled (Y/n) and a cheery Bokuto holding her shoulders. You approached but they immediately vanished behind a thick black curtain.

When you opened that curtain, it revealed you and Bokuto in your first year of middle school.

"I don't want to play anymore! I haven't scored a single point yet!" The volleyball player whined.

"Hey! I don't recall you being someone who gives up when it's hard! Strong opponents will always come into your way and it's your job to adapt and make a way to defeat them! In the end, you might not always win but you do not get to give up. And remember, I'm cheering for you up there and I'll be proud of you no matter what!" His best friend said.

"You promise?"

"Of course I promise!"

The two teens linked their little fingers together and they turned back into their five years old selves.

"I say we make a pact! When one of us has an important event, the other one must be there to cheer, every time! Unless you reallyyyy can't or something, like both events are at the same time or a giant monster kidnaps you! And if you do get kidnapped I'll save you!!" The boy announced.

"Deal!" The girl smiled.

You stood there, your heart warmed by the memories.

The moment lasted quite shortly because all of sudden, you felt the floor crackle underneath your feet. You tried to escape but you fell in a deep hole and landed hardly on your butt. Out there, today's Bokuto was waiting for you.

"(Y/n), you lied."

"Kou? What do you mean?"

"You promised you'd be here, where are you?"
"I'm right here look!"

"Don't bother assisting my next games, don't bother come back into my life either. Good bye (Y/n)." He turner his back and walked away.

"Wait Koutaro! Look I'm here! Please don't leave me!" You kept on yelling, running after him. "Bokuto! Come back! I'll be there next time I swear! Please, don't leave me... please."
