ZAYDA SAT IN HER, BASICALLY BROTHER-IN-LAW'S CAR with her arms crossed and a stern look on her face. "What the fuck you mad for? I should be mad." Reg Taylor snapped as he reversed out of her school's parking lot. "You know how much money I could be making? Instead, I'm out here driving your badass home, because you decided to get in trouble. You lucky your sister or mother ain't answer when they called."
"You acting like your job is that important," Zayda mumbled turning to face the window. "Oh, for real? Who got you them shoes that you wearing right now and never take off." He asked, pointing down at her white Nike Air Force 1's. "You did." She grumbled, not taking her eyes off the trees that breezed past the windows.
"Oh alright. That's what I thought." Reg quipped, waiting for a sarcastic comeback from the young girl. His face softened when he looked over at Zayda and saw how upset she truly was. "Why'd you even get in trouble in the first place," Reg asked, putting his attention back onto the road. "I don't want to talk about it."
"I mean, you got my ass out here driving you around. So, you might as well tell me." Reg shrugged, while Zayda slowly turned to face him. "Some kid was just talking shit. Saying that my dad was some weak ass nigga for getting killed in the line of duty and saying that I'm a pussy just like him." She spoke in a monotone. Whenever the mention of her father's name would pop up, Zayda would just completely shut down. It hurt to talk about him and his death, considering that he was like her best friend.
"And what did you do about that?"
"I threw him down the staircase. He broke his arm and his leg."
"Damn, Z! You ain't have to almost kill the nigga."
"You're the one to talk!" Zayda exclaimed, sitting up in her seat. "Remember when you beat the fuck out of that one dude for staring at Zara's ass." She chuckled, recalling that day that she and Jake had to rip him off of the poor man. "He shouldn't have been staring at what wasn't his," Reg said with a light smirk present on his face. "So, what punishment did they give you?"
"One-day suspension, which was today. After school detention for a month, starting next week. And weekly talks with my guidance counseling for my anger issues." Zayda growled, putting quotations around 'anger issues'. "You need that shit," Reg claimed, making her glare at him. The car suddenly came to a stop, Zayda looked up and saw that they were parked in front of Sonny's.
"What the fuck we over here for?" Zayda questioned. "Your sister told me to pick up some food on the way home," Reg informed her while digging in his wallet for some money. "Okay, I'll be in the car. Go get it." She said, reclining her chair back. "Take your ass out my fucking car and go get the food."
