A/N: Yet again, unedited and written in about an hour. Just cute fluff this time, bc reasons.

The sun was setting low over Kansas. Golden orange light spilled out from the horizon. Sam knew if he looked next to him, he'd see Colby, and that the light would hit his face in the most beautiful way. But he didn't look. He didn't want to be weird.

They were sitting on the roof of Sam's house. It was a kind of tradition they had; at the end of every school week, they'd go up to Sam's room, sneak out his window, and sit on the roof until the stars were out and they couldn't think of anything else to talk about.

There was something special about this evening though. It was the last day of their senior year.

"God, feels so good to be out, y'know?" Sam said, breaking the comfortable silence and interrupting the sound of the crickets.

"Yeah." Colby said, shifting next to him. "It's kinda scary too, though."

"I mean, I guess." Sam said. "We're free though. We have the whole world to explore now."

"That doesn't scare you at all?"

Sam glanced over at his friend. He'd been right, the light on his face made him look like a Greek god, like a statue of Adonis. Sun in one eye, shadow in the other.

"I mean, yeah, I'm a little scared. But it's Sam and Colby versus the world, remember?"

Colby smiled. Sam watched dimples form on his cheeks. The sun highlighted them too and Sam was pretty sure he fell in love all over again. In that moment, he could've died and not even been that mad about it. Well, he'd be kinda mad, but still.

"Hell yeah." Colby said. He reached out a hand, pinky finger sticking up. Sam mirrored the motion and they linked fingers in a promise he prayed they'd never break.

"Sam and Colby, versus the world." Sam said again. He tried not to gaze into Colby's eyes and failed. They were normally so blue, but in the fading sunlight, they were a yellowy green. His pupils were small, almost like a cat's, and gave Sam a good view of his lovely irises. He was beautiful.

Sam broke his eyes away, staring off across the Kansas suburb instead. He felt Colby's hand drop, and he pulled his own back to his side, silently mourning the loss of contact. It was kinda pathetic, really. He was so whipped for a straight guy, who happened to also be his best friend. Sam didn't know which would be worse, being around Colby or moving on. Neither sounded good.

"You're my best friend, y'know?" Sam said suddenly, surprising both himself and Colby.

"You're my best friend too, man." Colby replied. Sam glanced over at him again. The smile was gone from him face, replaced by a soft and wistful look. God, he was so attractive.

"I know since it's after highschool now, so we'll probably go our separate ways eventually, but I just wanted you to know that. You're my best friend. Probably always will be." Sam offered a weak smile, stared down at the space between them.

"Hey, Sam. Sammy." Colby reached out a hand and tilted up Sam's chin, causing a small shiver to run down his spine. "What makes you think I'm ever gonna leave you?"

Sam shrugged, feeling kind of embarrassed now. "I dunno man, I just... things change after highschool."

"Yeah, they do." Colby said fiercely, enough so that it surprised both of them. "You're right, we're free now. We can keep doing our YouTube channel, and move out L.A., and everything we said we would. Right?"
