Four Years Later

Krist woke up and looked for his blaring phone right away.

With his eyes half closed, his hand reached on his side table and even to his floor, tapping frustratingly in order to turn off the annoying alarm sound from his phone. Krist was obviously not a morning person and when he realized that today was Sunday, he cursed himself for setting an alarm last night. When he already found his rectangular shaped device, he forced one of his eyes to open up and turn it off before resting his head on the bed once again.

After a few minutes, he was already sitting on his bed but his mind wasn't fully awake yet. He keeps on driftng back to sleep but after a few morning slap on the face, he was able to force himself up and search for breakfast on his refrigerator since his stomach was already growling. He settled for some yogurts and banana and then went outside his balcony. He was greeted by the morning sun as he stretched his body and yawned before taking a seat and checking his phone per his usual morning routine. There wasn't much on his Twitter, just his friends tweeting about random stuffs. His instagram wasn't that fun either until he noticed that one of his best friends, Off, sent him a direct message.

@offjumpol: Don't be late for my birthday party tomorrow night.

He chuckled as he looked over his bed where Off's gift was placed. Even if the latter won't have a psrty, Krist would still give him a present.

@kristperawat: Sure, be there. I promise.

After taking a shower and dressing a little less fancy than he usually does, he made his way to the parking lot, ocasionally greeting the personnel of the building where his condominium was. Some of them were still hesitant to greet him back or finds his friendliness a little overboard. He's still new afterall and the first few months that he has transferred in the building, he was either drunk or too grumpy to care about the people around him.

He got on his car and started to drive away. As he stopped the vehicle because of a traffic jam, his phone rang.

"Yes, I will be there," He said as he greeted the person who he just messaged that morning.

"Jesus, you really think way ahead," Off snickered.

"What? I thought you called because of your birthday party. I'll be there. I promise-"

"No, no, it's not because of that. I saw your reply on my message," Off said. "I just wanted to check up on you."

"Um, I'm okay?" Krist said, confused. "Why are you asking anyway? Ew, Off, are you actually getting clingy on me? I swear it's just-"

"No, damn you!" Off said. "It's just... Today is... You know."

"What?"

"You're um, wedding anniversary," Off said, almost whispering the last part. "Supposedly, I mean."

"Oh," Krist said. "I actually wasn't aware of that."

After what happened four years ago, Krist tried so very hard to carry on with his life and pretend like nothing happened but it was hard especially if he can see Singto everywhere he looks. For months, he felt like he was half asleep and days dragged on. He waited, of course, for Singto to return and explain himself. He cursed Singto sometimes but most times, he would just wished Singto would appear.

He never did.

Almost a year later of drunken nights and immobility because of intoxication, he was finally convinced by his mother to find another condominium and transfer to another place, trying to start anew. It was hard to leave the place that holds so much memory for him but it was for the better.
