Chapter 1: Last Summer Together

This afternoon was busy since there are people bustling through the streets in the city. The teenage Toono was standing against the pole waiting for someone until he heard a female voice.

"Toono!"

The brunette boy turns his head and smiles when he hears his childhood friend's voice.

"Rin-cha-! Ack!" As soon as he spun his head, Toono's jaw drops when he saw his friend's change of hair color and her hair is now a pixie cut.

"What happened to your hair?!" Toono shrieks as she approaches him with a giggle.

"Pretty cool isn't it? My mom and I went to a barbershop yesterday to get haircuts. My mom's hair is now a bobcut and I cut it into a pixie cut and dyed it platinum blonde! Don't I look cute?" She asks tilting her head with an innocent smile.

She looks so adorable....

Toono thought with a slight blush on his face.

"Yeah! You look good, Rin-chan! Umm..There's a cafe nearby that I saw a minute ago, wanna come?" Toono ask and she giggles and grins brightly.

"Sure!" She perks cheerily. As both of them head straight to the cafe, they have arrived and got their drinks. Afterwards, they sat down and chat about their summer and plans after summer break.

"So how's your summer, Rin-chan?" Toono ask as he takes a sip of his jasmine tea.

"My summer's great. I did some workout in the summer with my dad and uncle, did some martial arts practice with my uncle; which is my usual routine, but like my uncle and dad said, we have to energized our bodies and minds. We also went to the beach. So summer's been a blast." Rin explains and her friend nods with a grin.

"Sounds pretty fun." Toono compliments.

"What about you, Toono?" Rin ask curiously.

"I didn't do much expect helping my mom with groceries and going shopping with her. And..." Soon Toono strokes the back of his head averting his eyes biting his lower lip before glancing back at his bestie.

"I'm going to a private school." He said. Rin blinks her eyes twice while stirring her drink.

"Hm? Where?" She asks curiously.

"Mmm...it's at the mountains" Toono told her. Rin curls her brows at him.

"A private school in the mountains? That's strange." She remarks.

"Yeah. I was supposed to attend a coeducational high school around in Shibuya, but my dad got a job there so he's placing me in a private school. My parents think it's "convenient" than a public school." Toono explains making quotes with his fingers and Rin giggles.

"Is it convenient tho?" Rin asks curiously.

"Don't know. Haven't been there before, but I'll be going there tomorrow." Toono said.

"So I'm guessing we're going separate Huh?" Rin inquires sounding a bit sad, but Toono smiled and pats her shoulders.

"Don't worry about it Rin, it's not like it's the end of the world. We can still call each other, visit each other, and go out to places just like good times." Toono reassures and Rin giggles softly.

"You have to travel all the way back, y'know." Rin points out.

"I can still try!" Toono barked making her chuckle and lightly punch his shoulder.

"Course you are!" She chirped as both friends laugh heartedly together.

"So what's the name of the school you're going?" Rin asked.

"Mori Mori Academy. It's an all-boys school." Toono said.

"All boys?" Rin creased her brows.

"Yeah..." He shyly replied. Rin giggled.

"That means ya can't hook up with chicks then. Too bad for you~." Rin teased, making the brunette boy's face turned red and frowns at his playful bestie.

"Rin!!" He yelps and Rin burst out of laughter while waving her hand at him.

"I'm joking, boi! I'm not expecting you to get a girlfriend! Get a clue!!" Rin reminded with Toono twitching his brows twice before sighing.

"Fine. What about you, Rin-chan? What school are you going?" Toono asked while scratching his left cheek with his finger with a timid smile.

"Public school. My family wanted me attend there to interact with both boys and girls as well as getting a good education." Rin explained.

"That's reasonable." Toono said and she nods.

"Yeah. I don't mind actually. Sides, I can't stand the thought of wearing those stinkin' uniforms." Rin cringed with her bestie chuckling.

"What's the name?" He asked curiously.

"Hata Imai High School." She informed.

"Aah that. I think it's somewhere near around here..." Toono assumed.

"Yup. That's the school I'm going." Rin casually said. She grabs the cup of her tea.

"Enough of that." She lifts her drink to her best friend with a smile.

"Let's relax and enjoy our last summer together!" Rin chirped and Toono smiled back at lifts his drink as well.

"Yeah!" As both of them clank their cups, they drank their drinks and spend their summer one last time before they head separate ways.
