Meanwhile, Wynonna and Dolls had made their way into a corner of one of the large tents, finding masses of scientific equipment and fridges filled with various liquids. They'd lost Bouillon and Perry while running to hide from a group of soldiers that had crept up on them.
"Do you think we lost them?" Wynonna whispered.
Dolls held a finger to her lips and she rolled her eyes.
"I'm being quiet, Dolls. Calm your panties."
"Earp, we have just lost two of our best. Now is not the time to argue!"
"Says you, numbnuts!"
"Wynonna!" Dolls placed his entire hand over her mouth, his entire body shaking as he stared into her eyes. Whether it was fear or fury, the elder Earp wasn't sure, but it was super hot either way. She held her hands up, signalling surrender, and he removed his hand.
"My humblest apologies, Sergeant. But I think we've lost them. We should at least have a nosy around this place before finding Perry and Bouillon, right? Get all the intel we can?"
The Sergeant didn't change his blank facial expression, but after a time, slowly nodded. He took his gun from its holster and checked for how many bullets were left. Then he pulled a torch out of his jacket pocket, clicked it on, and balanced his gun on top of it. "Let's go then, Earp."
Dolls took the left side of the tent and Wynonna the right. Following in the Sergeant's footsteps, the elder Earp took out her gun in readiness for whatever they might come across and stepped slowly along the length of the space. On her side, there were mostly fridges filled with vials and jugs of unusual liquids. Some were dark red and others a pale yellow. One fridge looked at thought it contained blood bags, except the blood were a sludgy shade of blue.
"This is more rank than Nedley at the end of a shift," Wynonna said quietly. Dolls gave no reply but by the looks on his face, he agreed.
"Earp," he said suddenly, waving his hand at her. "Look at this."
Wynonna made her way to his side, her hand rushing to her mouth as she almost gagged. "Warn a girl before you show her a severed head, Dolls."
The Sergeant ignored her comments and moved in closer. The glass cabinet they stood in front of had been welded shut. The head sat on the top shelf, a couple of arms on the shelf below, and then a torso-sized black bag sat at the bottom of the cabinet. "It's certainly intriguing," Dolls said.
"That's not the word I would use, but sure. Why have these soldier dudes got a dead body in a freezer thing?"
"I suppose we'll have to ask them and find out." Dolls took one last look at the head before continuing to explore the tent.
"You're joking, right?"
The Sergeant didn't respond.
"Dolls? You aren't just gonna ask one of these bozos why they have a body in a fridge, are you? Dolls? Jeez, you're going to get us both killed."
"That would be a turn of events, huh?" The Sergeant almost sounded like he was laughing.
"Yeah, ok, very funny. Go back to being boring now please, thank you." Wynonna shook her head at the thought of a laughing Dolls but didn't have long to recover as the tent flaps flew open.
Dolls opened fire at the soldiers but the bullets just bounced off of their chests. "What the hell?"
Wynonna lept onto the solider nearest her and held a gun to his neck, slowly strangling him. The soldier went red to purple to blue, his eyes becoming bloodshot from the strain, but still, he stood. When the elder Earp couldn't hold on anymore, she climbed down the soldier and stood besides Dolls.
"What is going on?"
The Sergeant shrugged. "No idea. Not sure I want to find out though."
Just as Wynonna went to reply, the soldiers parted to reveal a slightly smaller man waiting behind them who as wearing a thick fur coat, no shirt, brown leather pants, and knee-high ski-style boots.
"Good day to you both," the man said, bowing low. "I hope my men here weren't too rough with you?"
Wynonna shrugged. "I mean, I peed my pants a little bit, but a change of clothes will sort that out. I don't know about Dolls though. Do you guys have any snacks? I'm kind of hungry."
"No snacks, I'm afraid. But where are my manners?" The man held out his hand. "Bobo Del Ray. Nice to finally meet you."
Dolls took a step forward, creating space between Wynonna and Bobo. "Finally meet? What's that supposed to mean?"
Bobo grinned. "I knew her Daddy, Ward. We worked together when she was little. It's a shame really, what happened, but war is war."
"You knew my Dad?"
"Sure. Not the best guy in the world but, as I said, war is war. Once you've seen the things I have, you change."
The Sergeant moved closer to Bobo, catching his gaze. "Getting back on track, Mr Del Ray; can we come to some sort of agreement here?"
"Nope." Bobo smiled, waved, and turned away to leave the tent.
The elder Earp growled. "What do you mean nope, you son of a bitch? Get back here now!"
"Oh, it's good to see you got your father's anger issues. We'll talk later, Wynonna." With a wave of his hand, Bobo's soldiers pinned them down and shoved a sack over each of their heads. They were handcuffed and then stabbed with a needle.
A/N: Uh oh.. Things aren't going much better here than they were for the other team XD
