"Rise and shine my darlings," My mother was waking us up like she normally did on any normal day.
But little did she know...
"Morning Mom," I yawned, waking up laying next to to my twin sister Ivy.
"Good morning Vines, do you mind waking up Ivy cause I got to go. You know, duty calls."
Mom walks the tightrope at the circus she and Papa worked at.
"Hey, wake up if you want to see Mama's morning show."
She quickly jumped out of bed, "Vines, why didn't you tell me sooner?"
She ran to get changed and I chased after her wanting to get to breakfast before Papa's famous pancakes got cold. We finished just when Papa was about to put the pancakes in the fridge.
"Wait!" Ivy screamed.
Papa almost jumped out of his skin
"Good Lord Ivy dear, every time you do that you take ten years off my life," he said holding his heart as if to check if it was still beating.
"I love you too," said Ivy while we both hugged him.
"Pancake time," I yelled while taking the plate from Papa's hands and Ivy got the sugar.
Our morning routine.
As soon as we sat down our dad started talking, "Guess what girls I have surprise! The circus is moving to Wisconsin this weekend."
Dad was visibly uncomfortable because when the circus moved he had to handle the lions since he's the lion tamer.
Ivy frowned, "But vines and I have our mini show this weekend. We've been practicing our act for a month."
Ahh yes, I forgot about the show. The ring master finally agreed to let us do a twins clown act with unicycles, juggling, and, you know the whole clown rig-ma-role.
My dad's face became apologetic, "I'm sorry sweetie if I knew before I would have told him before he planned it."
I wasn't nearly as sad as Ivy because she's the one who convinced me to do it, but I was still disappointed.
"Don't worry Ivy, I'm sure we can reschedule it. Right?" I said, both of us looking at my dad for support.
But all he did was look down at his shoes. Suddenly, Ivy with eyes full of tears, got up and started to get ready to leave the trailer.
"Let's just go," she mumbled. "I don't wanna miss Mom's show."
I kissed my dad goodbye and headed out the door to meet my sister. We live in a trailer park designated for all the carnies so it's about a 5 minute walk to the main park. As we walked Ivy didn't utter a word.
We entered the tent right on time because guests were starting to file in. The tent was big compared to others, due to the fact that our carnival is pretty well funded. There were hundreds of seats and every one of them was filled up except the front row which was family only seats so the performers' family could see better.
"Look there she is," pointed Ivy.
All signs of sadness in her eyes left as she saw our mother climbing the ladder to the tippy top of the tightrope. When I first saw her climb I was horrified for her life but now I know she is a professional so I take the time to examine her skill instead. I was so lost in my thoughts that I didn't even notice when the ring master came in the spotlight.
"Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to The Glow! As you may know we have the most trained performers in the country here at Glow Circus! Talking about performers are y'all ready to be amazed?" The crowd went wild, "Okay! So I would like to introduce to you, Amelia the Acrobat!"
As soon as he said her name my mother did a cartwheel onto the tightrope. Even I was cheering when she did a flip twice in a row. Everything was going great until she started spinning. At the end of the rope I saw a shadow but I couldn't make outs it's face but I quickly looked back at my mom when I heard a snap. Slowly the rope undid and my mom's eyes just widened with each snap. Before anyone could react she fell.
Over fifty feet. To the ground.
