DROVER'S SON

Beaded pearls of salty sweat treacle down his weathered brow. Wearily he stops to wipe it, using his sleeve as a towel. Anguished pain embeds within him as he pounds down on the hard red earth. His entire morsel always aching from working, literally on the earth since birth. Digging, ploughing, riding horses, droving cattle, fencing and not to mention the daily grime of house duties. Never stopping to complain. Always slaving and striving, hoping soon it would rain.

A drover's son who leads way back from generations that have come and gone, but not in spirit. For a drover's spirit remains in the ground he works in and in the hearts of each generational son. The dry and red desolate outback is in his blood to carry forever on.

At night he trudges home again, lights the fire with great ease, creating flickering ember flames that start to warm the room from the cold desert night breeze. He lightens up the room with a lantern and then casually stands near the fire so not to freeze. His hands are blistering and sore but they have toughened over the years to withstand the harshness.

After carefully washing his hands and preparing his meal. He then sits at the table his grand father made years ago and prays before eating. His hearty meal was made from his own fresh produce. He works hard for his meal every night and so thanks his maker for helping him through each and every daily grime of his life.

After finishing dinner he then washes his dishes and leaves them out to dry. With his tired legs aching he walks toward the cozy fire and put's his last log of wood on for the night. Once he pokes it to flame he sits on his comfy chair to rest his tired aching  bones.

He opens up his Bible and reads from his favourite psalms chapter. Then after a quick read, puts it down on his little wooden side table. He thanks God for all he has done then praises Him with a song.

God to him is his number one, with Him He does no wrong. The day was long, hard and hot but the night is very cool and peaceful. Ending in praise to him means a lot, it makes each day seem more Joyful.

Once he sings his song he washes for bed and dampens the hot coals in the fire. With his mind on his sweet wife and son who were away looking after her sick mum. He kisses there picture goodnight and turns off the down stairs light.

Once in his room he then dresses for bed and lays down his weary head. Feeling the softness almost sends him to sleep. But instead he perks himself up and reads his Bible one more time, says his prayers then drifts softly to sleep.

He dreams of his childhood love whom of course he made his wife and his son who is only five years old. He dreams of the time when his maker he meets as His son carries on the blood line to live always as a drover's son.

One day his dreams will come true and his maker he will meet as his son carries on the family tradition. In God's arms he will rest, no more slaving and striving to do. Just an eternity of peaceful bliss in the arms of his first love Jesus.
