Spoilers for Danganronpa: Trigger Happy HavocTrigger Warning
It had been several weeks since the killing game had begun. Monokuma, the school's headmaster, kept 16 students inside Hope's Peak Academy, the most prestigious school in the world. Only students called "Ultimates" could attend, and these students each had a special talent. The Ultimate Baseball Star, the Ultimate Gambler, and so on. Among these students was Makoto Naegi, who was an ordinary student attending high school who was chosen by Hope's Peak Academy in a random draw. Makoto was then named the Ultimate Lucky Student. But the situation he found himself was nowhere near good luck.
Since the killing began, there had been 4 class trials so far. Four murders, and four executions, and one of those murders was a suicide. There remained only 7 students; Aoi Asahina, Yasuhiro Hagakure, Toko Fukawa, Byakuya Togami, Makoto Naegi, Kyoko Kirigiri, and Nikki Ayami. These seven had yet to solve another murder, and face one last class trial, one last chance to solve the mysteries surrounding Hope's Peak.
But before all of that, let's go back to the beginning, after the first murder, the murder of Sayaka Maizono. She had planned to kill Leon Kuwata, the Ultimate Baseball Star, but in return, Sayaka, the Ultimate Pop Sensation, got murdered instead.
After these events, the student Nikki Ayami got approached by Makoto Naegi. They talked, and became good friends. After trust was built, Nikki let Makoto know about her personal life; she was abused by her family. This caused her to form a defensive shield and a bitter attitude towards everyone, but after she entered Hope's Peak, and nobody tried to hurt her, she became more open and confident. One her first day, Nikki's voice was shaky and unstable, and she always had closed body language. Now, she and Makoto make constant contact, in either hugs or handshakes, and have a great emotional connection as well. She had even given him a nickname; Koto.
After Sakura's suicide, Nikki once again got hit with the reality they were facing. She went to Makoto, entering a crying fit with his arms wrapped around her, Nikki staining his hoodie with tears as she sobbed into his shoulder.
"K-Koto... I'm so scared. I always said I didn't want to live because of my family, but now that we've grown close, I'm afraid someone might kill me. You're my best friend, you never hurt me."
Makoto spoke. "You're my best friend too. I'm kind of surprised, actually. I never thought you'd want to become friends with someone as normal as me."
"Honestly, I wish I'd met you sooner. I'm so happy you're my friend. I'm so happy that I could die right here and I'd be fine with that."
"Nikki, don't say that-!"
She sniffled. "But it's true. I'd rather die here where I'm happy than keep living with my family where I get hurt almost every day."
Suddenly the bell rang, and the nighttime announcement from Monokuma played.
Nikki wiped her tears and turned to Makoto. "I wanted to suggest staying over at your room, but that's against the school regulations. And I don't want there to be an incident like with Sayaka if we switch rooms. But, I'm so scared, what do we do?"
"Why don't you ask Hina if you could stay over? You're both girls and I bet she'd be fine with it."
"Alright. Goodnight, Koto."
"Goodnight Nikki."
Nikki made her way to Hina's door and knocked. Hina answered and Nikki asked to stay over, to which Hina agreed.
