As the days of lockdown wore on, Y/N and Taehyung's interactions grew increasingly frequent and meaningful. What had started as casual conversations over the balcony blossomed into something deeper. Each morning, Y/N would find herself eagerly antic...
"Wait... WHAT?" I shouted, leaping to my feet and clutching my phone. A notification from my local news app flashed on the screen—school was canceled until further notice due to COVID-19. I stumbled over to the balcony in my bedroom. "This is crazy... I have to stay six feet away from everyone. I won't be able to go anywhere or see anyone." I pouted, letting my head droop.
Leaning against the railing, I gazed out at the quiet street. It was around sunset, so not many people were out. The country was closed off to new entries; we had to stay home until the president gave the all-clear.
Across the way, on the balcony, one floor down, chaos was unfolding. Their doors were wide open, and two boys were chasing each other around their room. One of them was yelling from the kitchen. "Why did you go into my ramyeon stash?" A pink-haired boy shouted as he pursued a blonde one.
"I was hungry!" the blonde boy whined playfully as he dashed in circles, dodging his friend. The broad-shouldered boy in the kitchen barked at them to stop running before they broke something. "Sorry, Jin hyung, but I called dibs on this ramyeon pack from Jungkook's stash," the blonde laughed as he ran to the balcony, only to be cornered.
The blonde boy caught between the railing and his friend, he threw his hands up in mock surrender. "Okay, okay! I'll give it back!" he said, trying to stifle his laughter. The pink-haired boy, approached with a triumphant grin, grabbing the packet of ramyeon from the blonde's hands. "You better keep your hands off my stash next time," he said, shaking his head.
The broad-shouldered boy, who had been standing in the kitchen, finally joined them on the balcony, his face showing a mix of relief and frustration. "Seriously, guys? Can we not break anything today? We're already in enough trouble with everything going on," he said, his tone exasperated but amused.
The blonde boy, still grinning, leaned against the railing across from me. "Looks like we're not the only ones stuck at home," he said, noticing me watching them. "Hi there! I'm Taehyung. What's your name?" I blinked, slightly startled but amused. "Hey, I'm Y/n. Nice to meet you, Taehyung. And, um, what's your friend's name?" I asked, glancing at the pink-haired boy and the purple-haired one who had been in the kitchen.
"Oh, that's Jungkook," Taehyung said, pointing to the pink-haired boy, "and that's Jin," he added, indicating the broad-shouldered one. "We're kind of a chaotic bunch, but we're making the best of it." Jin looked to Taehyung and sighed, "There's four more of us in the apartment too." I laughed, feeling a bit of the tension from the news fade away. "Yeah, it seems like everyone's adjusting to this weird situation in their own way."
Jungkook caught my eye and gave a friendly wave, "Don't let us disturb you. We're just trying to survive this lockdown, too." Jin, leaning casually against the balcony rail, nodded in agreement. "Yeah, if you ever need a distraction or just want to chat, feel free to drop by. It's nice to have some company." I smiled, feeling a bit better about the unexpected turn of events. "Thanks, I might take you up on that another day. We can't do much with all these restrictions." I sighed as a small breeze passed through the alley.
Another guy with ashy blonde hair appeared on the balcony, looking slightly amused. "Jin hyung... Namjoon hyung's messing with your food in the kitchen." Jin's eyes widened in horror before he spun on his heels and dashed inside. "NAMJOON! Get out of the kitchen before you burn down the apartment!" he shouted.
The rest of the boys exchanged glances, slowly turning their heads back toward the kitchen as chaos erupted. There were frantic yells, followed by loud thuds and the sound of something—or someone—getting smacked around. My jaw dropped in disbelief.
"Hyung! Hyung! I'm sorry! Ow!" a voice whimpered, and soon, a tall guy with ashy brown hair crawled weakly towards the balcony. Before he could make his escape, Jin stormed up behind him, grabbed him by the ankles, and dragged him back into the apartment like it was just another day. More crashes and pleading filled the air, echoing through the place.
Taehyung turned back to me with an apologetic smile. "Sorry, Y/N. I'll catch up with you later." He ushered the other boys inside, quietly sliding the balcony door shut behind him, leaving me to process the absurdity of it all. For a few moments, I just stood there, staring at the now-closed balcony door. The sound of Namjoon's pleas still echoed faintly through the walls. I couldn't help but laugh to myself. It had only been a few minutes of talking to them, but somehow, these boys already felt like a strange but welcome distraction from the loneliness creeping in due to the lockdown.
Shaking my head, I stepped back from the railing and made my way inside. The apartment felt eerily quiet compared to the boisterous chaos I had just witnessed. I plopped down on my bed and picked up my phone, absently scrolling through messages and social media. Nothing new. Everyone was dealing with the same situation—classes were canceled, and plans put on hold indefinitely. It was like the whole world had hit pause.
But at least I wasn't alone. I had neighbors to keep things interesting.
