Chapter 2: Dauntless

Ailee

I've passed the first task. Jumping on the train. I see tris and christina talking. Suddenly christina walks over to me. "Hey, you okay?" She shouts to me over the wind. I nod. "Im christina'"she says like she did with tris. I shake her outstretched hand. "Aileena," i reply.

The Dauntless are jumping off. Christina looks at Tris and I. She grabs our hands. "I just cant... cant do it without anyone forcing me to." So we jump off together onto the roof.

Tris jumped. My heart  thumps as i step up as the second jumper, even though i know whats down there. "Today!" Peter calls and i step on the tiny ledge and step off.

Wind whistles around me as i fall into the hole. As predicted, i land in the net as Four reached out to me and pulls me out. "whats your name?" He asks."you can change it, but make sure its good cause you cant change it again." I hesitate but then give my answer. "Ailee." He nods. "Four. Ailee, second jumper!" The dauntless cheer and stomp just as someone screams and the next jumper comes. Christina.

After all the initiates jump, Four and the others introduce themselves. Then they to the tour.

I go to the tattoo parlor. Tori is there. I go up to her. "Hey," i say. I want a tattoo. Any recommendations?"
She shrugs. "I dont know much. But i like inifinity rings." I make up my mind. "I want three infinity rings, each with one word written into it. Strength, life, and love. Above my collarbone." Tori nods and gets to work.
Three infinity rings. Each with one word. Strength, love and life, above my collarbone right where my necm connects with my shoulder. Close to my heart.

My bunk is next to tris' and christinas. Im glad, cause i dont really know anyone that well, unless you count reading about them.
Morning comes quickly. Four explains what we're doing today. How to shoot a gun. Duh. Tris stares at the gun. I've read what she feels in the book, and I'm basically the girl who knows everything about the characters future. Huh. Thats funny. Soon comes the part where four holds a gun to peters forehead. I try not to laugh.
Were firing guns at the target. Ive only hit the target twice, and tris is yet to come. The first time, i forgot what the book said about the recoil of the gun and my hands spring towards my face. Tris fires again and again, and will tells her that she should've hit the target at least once. And she does.
Finally it's break for lunch. Unlike what the book says about tris, my arms don't trob so much. Maybe it's because in my real life, i have to carry so much stuff all the time.
I sit with christina, tris, al and will. They talk about the school and i see tris dozing off. Thinking about the divergent. Then she stares at Edward and Myra and looks away when they kiss. It's unusual for the actual Abnegation, but not for me.
"Do they have to me so public?" Tris says.
"She just kissed him." Al frowns at her. "It's not like they're stripping naked." I smile. I know this part well.
"A kiss is not something you do in public."
Al, Will, and Christina all give her the same knowing smile. I'm not included, since im also in Abnegation. But i dont react to Edward and Myra as if i didnt see them.
"What?" Tris says.
"Your Abnegation is showing" says christina. "The rest of us are all right with a little affection in public...except for you and Ailee." I shrug and nod. "I guess. My mother always used to tell me to look away, and i dont usually notice those things." Thats not a total lie. I dont notice them.
"Oh," tris shrugs. "Well...i guess ill have to get over it, then."
" or you can stay fridgid." Says will. " you know. If you want." Christina throws a roll at him. He catches it and bites it.
"Dont be mean to her. Fridgidy is in her nature. Sort of like being a know it all is in yours."
"I am not fridgid!" Tris exclaims. "And neither is ailee, if you were about to mention."
"Dont worry," will says.
Tris' face goes red and i laugh while my face goes red too, and tris and the others join me. Dauntless life. Maybe it wouldn't be too bad after all.
