Chapter One

(Edited)

I threw my clothes back and forth and stocked all the necessary ones in the cases (though, hopefully they are the so called necessary).

Packing isn't my forte. Mom kept on reminding me to leave most of the junks. We spent the whole morning arguing what to and not to bring. I chose to bring almost all though.

"Not that old books, dear." Mom said while I was about to put them in the box.

"They're not that old mom." I said as I arranged them in the box.

Mom shrugged and walked out of my room.

Anyway, we are leaving our precious hometown for the city. Dad got a new job there and decided to tag us along. Families stay together as they say.

You may picture this out as a dramatic one in which neighbors come and say their goodbyes with teary eyes. Well, it isn't. The fact that houses here are distant apart, it isn't new having people move out.

Yeah, a common scenario in the countryside. People need to seek opportunities in the city and we are among them.

Other than that, I'm ecstatic to see my childhood best friend again. She left this place with her parents 5 years ago. They own a big company in the city and are earning a lot.

The Evans family is known as the richest family who came from our town. Emily is living with a golden spoon on her mouth. But still, she never forgot us especially me. She was the first who knew about our move. She was excited as much as me.

"Hannah. C'mon down dear." I heard mom called out. I dropped the box and started to walk downstairs.

You heard right. That's me. Hannah ... Hannah McTavish. I'm 19 and proud to be an Asian girl.

I'll be enrolling at Sheldon Bridge University with Emily. I even applied for a scholarship just to lessen the burden my Dad is having for the tuition. It's a prestigious school and I am only attending college there since Emily was able to convince Dad.

"Yes, Mom?" I asked as I saw Mom packed things at the kitchen.

"Mind helping me with these boxes dear?" Mom smiled as she handed me two large boxes.

"Just place them near the doorway. The movers will get them soon." she said as I exited the door trying to carry these two boxes. Did Mom ever think that I'm a girl for God's sake? Well obviously not.

As I walked out of the doorway, I placed the boxes and walked out the door.

I'll somehow miss this place. The peaceful place will always be incomparable. I know city life will never be this calming.

"Beep! Beep!"

I was then interrupted by a truck's horn. The Movers' truck.

"Mom! The truck is here." I called out.

I guess this is it. We really are moving this place ... for good.

Hours of travelling and finally, we are here. I immediately ran towards the airport gates carrying my cases. I even forgot they have wheels. People were staring at me, but the hell I care.

Outside the airport, I gasped for air and much even thrilled when I saw the tall skyscrapers and even luxurious cars. Countryside doesn't have all such things.

"Hello, City Life! Goodbye Hometown," I shouted.

"Hey, sweetie. Don't get too excited, you might end up getting disappointed soon." Mom said while trying to control her excitement too.

"Who would be disappointed with this mom? This is just so fun." I exclaimed.

"Whatever you say dearie," Mom said.

"C'mon girls. Our new place is waiting," Dad smiled as he brought our luggage bags towards the taxi.

Inside the taxi, I got my phone out and texted Emily. She should know I'm already here.

"Hey Ems, guess what, I am already here!!! Meet me at my place, I'll text the address." xoxoxo Hannah

"Oh! Sissy ... I'll sure be meeting you. I just need to finish something. See you later!" mwah Emily

This is really something fun. I never thought moving out to the city will make me grin like silly. I can't wait to see our new place and attend school on Monday. Summer is finally ending but it is the first time that I am glad it is ending. A new life is waiting for Hannah McTavish and nothing could bet my excitement.

"This is it. This is really is it."
