It was a very casual Saturday night. The clouds in the sky were rolling as they got dark and heavy. Not quite heavy enough to rain yet, but enough to be muggy and gross. Pedestrians pulled out their umbrellas on the streets of Fukuoka in anticipation.
A girl plopped down on a bus bench and sighed, her bag beside her. She pulled her knees to her chest and leaned against the metal covering over the bench. Fantastic. Great. Dumped, left out to fucking dry? All I wanted was a peaceful night. Now I'm here.
She started sniffling, on the verge of tears. How much more out of luck could she get? Now she didn't even have a place to stay. The mental wall she put up to keep the feelings about her now-ex came crashing down and tears flowed.
Across the street there was a man trying to catch a phone call, but to no avail. He shuddered, looking at his phone with snide disgust. "This is like the fifth time!" Ruffling his wings, he put his phone back in his pocket. As soon as he did that, it buzzed.
It was a text- Not interested Hawks. -Maria
"Damnit!"Hawks crossed his arms and drew his wings up to cover his head from the now pouring rain. A few of his feathers tingled, and he looked around for the cause. Is someone in distress? I hear something over the rain.
He turned his head to gaze across the street, to see a girl bunched up in a bus station bench. Hawks crinkled his nose at getting wet, but crossed the road very carefully to see what was going on. He approached the bench and tucked his wings behind back so he could sit next to her.
"What's a beautiful girl like you doing out here by yourself?" Hawks asked, learning forward and turning his head to look at her. The girl picked her head up, tears streaming down her face. "I can't believe it, now I'm hallucinating."
Hawks stifled a laugh, "Not quite. I'm sure you can tell, but my name is Hawks." He held out his gloved hand. "And you are?"The girl sniffled and reached and grabbed his hand, "Alice." He smiled and gently set his other hand on top of hers. "Why are you out here by yourself miss Alice? It raining now, you can most definitely catch a cold."
Alice pulled her hand back from Hawks and straightened her body out from looking withdrawn. She turned to face him."My boyfriend and I got into a huge fight, he told me to get my shit and get out." She mumbled, putting her hands up to her face as she cried harder. Hawks frowned, wrapping an arm around her to pull her into a hug. "Hey, shh, your face is too beautiful to have tears. Everything is going to be okay, alright? I can give you a place to stay for a while, if you want. I feel like you don't really have a great footing right now to get a place."
Alice moved her hands away from her face, "I don't want to trouble you, I can repay you however you want me to. I-" He shushed her, and grinned.
"Okay, under one condition!" Hawks leaned back, away from her. She tilted her head, sitting up as well. "Yes?"
"Can you cook? Because I sure as hell cannot."
Alice laughed a little, and locked eyes with him, "A pro hero and you can't cook?" He narrowed his eyes at her. "Look, Endeavor can't either. I am definitely not alone."She grabbed her bag from the bench. "Really though, I don't want to be troublesome."
Hawks shook his head, "No way. I can't just leave you here in a shitty situation like this. I'm partially glad it's night-time, no one really recognizes me. You won't be a bother, c'mon. Let's get you somewhere safe." Alice stood up, and pointed ahead. "This way?" He smiled, shaking his head. "No, actually, it's a little farther than that. Hold on!"
Hawks picked her up by her arms and held on securely as he jumped into flight. Alice started freaking out - this was all so unreal - and he tightened his grip on her. "You aren't going anywhere beautiful, trust me." He flapped his wings as they ascended, leveling out in the air. The view was beautiful, and Alice gasped.
"I've never seen the city like this before!" She smiled, suddenly feeling comfortable. I'm safe for now, safe.
