sonny started walking home, as promised, not even knowing where she was going. she wouldn't admit it, although she was terrified. it was getting dark and a black girl walking around a gated community at night wasn't a good look.

"I can't believe she let me go home alone!"

it was times like these that sonny couldn't help but resent her mother. for some reason she always made excuses for her, though.

it was always that; her mother was still young and still wanted to party and relive the years that she missed out on, or the fact that her father was nowhere to be found.

without even noticing, sonny had made it into a much more familiar area. it wasn't her neighborhood, but it would do for now.

she went to take a breather under the hooding of a corner store, rain picked up out of nowhere.

she saw the same car from earlier and saw a guy about her age get out. she didn't wait to get a look at his face, being too shy, she put her head down.

it seemed the rain wouldn't be letting up any time soon, so her best option was to walk because she literally had no money in her pockets.

"say, pretty girl." she was pulled back by the back of her dress.

sonny cringed at the name.

"don't call me dat." she yanked away from him.

turning around she couldn't help but feel a little star struck. she was face to face with nba youngboy. he wasn't her favorite artist or anything, but she had never met a celebrity before.

"i'm sorry pretty girl, but I do what I want." he flashed his million dollar smile and even the dim lights of the corner store made his diamonds dance.

"whateva nigga," she scoffed.

kentrell continued to smile at sonny because she was treating him like a regular person, even though he's anything but basic.

"you need a ride," he asked. "it's rainin and shit and you hea by yoself."

"I do, but I don't have any mon—"

"no offense. what the fuck imma do wit them couple of dollars you tryna give me?" he laughed at her nervousness.

sonny knew he was right and that made her embarrassment even worse.

he's a fuckin millionaire you idiot, she thought.

he took her to the car where she got into the backseat. once kentrell was in, the driver looked up from him phone and saw sonny in the backseat.

"nigga, why you got dis weird ass bitch in hea?"

"yo, who the fuck you think you is? i'll beat yo fatass!"

montana mugged sonny and she gave him the same face back. "nobody told yo lil stick ass to speak!"

"shutcho ass up! we takin her home," kentrell ordered.

montana mumbled under his breath as sonny told them the address that was about four houses down from her own.

"you got sum to say, fatty?"

he continued to mumble, not paying her any attention.

"oh cause I thought a fat bitch dat gotta take me home said sum!"

kentrell laughed as montana smacked his lips. the vibe she gave was off to him. a girl her age out this late had to be a prostitute.

on the way home, sonny managed to make conversation. surprisingly, it flowed well even with the smart remarks from montana.

when they made it to the address, sonny said a quick goodbye before another conversation started up. as soon as the door closed behind her, montana zoomed off, happy to get rid of her.

sonny got home and saw her mom's car parked outside. she got inside and saw her in the living room counting a few stacks of money. obviously her earnings from tonight.

she didn't bother speaking and went straight to her room because after tonight she deserved her rest.
