Rosemary Opal Grant had just finished unpacking her bags and went outside with her older sister; Jasia, to meet their new neighbors. They had just moved to a new house, out of the city and into the beautiful country side. Rose didn’t miss anyone; she was an outcast at her old school, because they knew what she was. She was a witch. She tried to hide it but the one person she called a friend told the rest of the school, and after that even teachers didn’t look at her the same.

But this school would be a fresh start for Rose, she would never tell another soul. She couldn’t risk it. Rose and Jasia went to the two houses on either side of them. Neither of the owners were home. While walking around the dirt road, Rose met a boy about her age named Alex.

“Hi.” Rose said.

“Hey, I haven’t seen you around here. What’s your name?” Alex asked.

“I’m Rosemary Opal Grant, but most people call me Rose and my close friends call me Opal. I just moved here yesterday.” Rose replied.

“What school are you going to?”

“Walnut creek middle school, I haven’t gone to the school to see what it looked like or have gotten my schedule.”

“I’m going there, I’ll show you around. You can sit next to me at lunch. What bus do you ride, do you know?”

“Yeah, I’m ridding bus number 43.”

“Me to, we can sit together.” Alex said, smiling, he really liked Rose, he’d be happy to show her around. Her hair was brown and her eyes were a strange shade of purple, she mesmerized him, she was like no other girl at his school. And little did he know Rose felt the same way. She loved his dark brown/black hair, his brown eyes, he was the popular kid at school but wasn’t cocky at all.

“So are there nice girls at the school?” Rose asked, wondering if he had a girlfriend.

“Not really, there gossipers and queen bees, they all fight over my attention like it’s a life source.”

“Oh, well then I guess I’ll be hanging out with you most of the time.”

“Cool, we can be friends.”

“Sweet, see you tomorrow.”

“Okay, bye, I’ll meet you at your place tomorrow, which one’s yours?”

“Third one down, I’ll have a giant moving truck in my front yard, you can’t miss it.”

“Okay thanks.” Alex said.
