The Truth

Soon after Rosalind left Damien woke up and went to get breakfast whilst my useless self sat there and waited.

As soon as he walked through the door I immediately smiled, catching the scent of waffles and maple syrup. I couldn't help the squeal that slipped past my lips as he chuckled quietly shaking his head.

I had already planned to tell him of my idea during breakfast and as he sat down and ate I managed to feed myself, despite the amount of energy it takes to use your powers, especially when your strength isn't at it's best.

By the time we finished eating I was drained, but I opened my mouth to speak nonetheless.

"Damien, I think I found a way to heal myself," I smile at him before explaining my plan.

He sits there throughout it all listening carefully and nodding his head from time to time. By the time I've finished his eyebrows are furrowed but an excited glint in his eyes tells me he wants to try as much as I do.

"Then let's wait for nightfall and try this, yeah?"

I beam a smile at him as he pecks my forehead before helping me into the bathroom for a shower.

The rest of the day drags on, and all I can do is sit in the office and help reading important files and occasionally advising the odd one or two that find themselves in need of a worthy ear.

Lunch time comes and goes, my sandwich and sweet Millie keeping me company.

By the time it's dinner I'm ready to rip my hair out and scream from frustration, my neck aches and a constant headache looms over me.

Rosalind walks into the office to find me broken down on my newly-found home on the couch, tears streaming down my face, which only makes me sob harder knowing I can't wipe them.

Jenna tried talking to me multiple times, but I don't even hear her anymore. I'm pretty sure she's given up, soon like everyone else will. Faridah will find a new best friend, Damien will move on and find a worthy Luna, someone who can actually run a pack and strengthen it.

I hardly hear her approach, the sound of her heels clicking against the hardwood floor not even registering in my head as I get swept away by my thoughts and drown my sorrows in the depths of my mind.

I feel a dip on the other side of the couch and immediately try to cease my crying, swallowing my sadness and quieting my hiccups.

"Come here," Rosalind engulfs me in her rich scent, sighing softly as she strokes my hair gently.

I selfishly let my tears stain her shirt.

"Only a few hours love, then you'll be back to your normal self don't worry," She smiles at me taking a tissue off the table and cleaning me up.

"Thank you so much R-Rose, it means s-so much that your h-here... with me," I hiccup smiling sadly.

"Nonsense, your my friend, leader and inspiration. Don't think for a minute anyone is brought anything other than sadness and pain from your tears."

After a few minutes we head to dinner together, I try not to let the tears fall as I get fed. No one says anything and eats in peaceful silence, until I stop eating.

Halfway through my food, I stop eating it hurts so much having to be spoon fed.

I use whatever strength I have left to teleport to my bed, not even opening my eyes once I'm there, and letting sleep rescue me.

"Layla..."

"Layla it's time you... up."
