It was hard to pinpoint exactly when it started.
It was something akin to second nature to snap some pictures for the sake of keeping memories.
Jimin was particularly fond of taking pictures. He had bought himself a rather expensive camera to dabble in photography during his free time. However, on the days he couldn't leave his house, the only interesting subject to photograph was Mina, who protested lightly at the attention every time.
"No!" Mina would laugh, pulling the blanket over her head. "I'm not even ready."
"And who's fault is that?" Jimin chuckled. "You haven't left the bed all day."
"One more episode." She pleaded under the covers.
"That's what you said an hour ago!" Jimin knew he wouldn't win and instead would find himself under the covers next to her.
Even that wouldn't last long. Every time, without fail, Jimin would be caught trying to sneak in a photo of her, then promptly find himself being pushed playfully off the bed.
Although Mina would feel bashful when he took pictures of her, he knew she also enjoyed the activity. So much so that she bought Jimin a Polaroid instant camera and a photo album accordingly. It was this act that sparked the beginnings of one of their most treasured creations.
Jimin loved it. They opened his gift together on the evening of his birthday. As predicted, they took way too many pictures for one night. Nevertheless, the most important part happened long after these hours of play. Jimin lay fast asleep on the couch, a blanket draped haphazardly over his sleeping figure. Mina was still awake, but just barely. She felt her eyes droop dangerously lower as time passed, but caught herself before they could find themselves with sore necks in the morning from spending the night slumped over a couch.
Mina turned to her left to prod Jimin awake. "Hey, we should really get to bed."
No answer.
Jimin was out cold with his mouth wide open in slumber. Mina cackled. It was almost too comical. If only all the fancams could see him now.
It was then that a light bulb went off somewhere in her mind. Taking the Polaroid camera into her hands, she snapped a perfect shot from a very unappealing angle. Not even bothering to muffle her laughter, Mina placed it in his brand new photo album. She closed it and cleaned up the area before deciding that she really needed to get them both to bed. Mina was allowed one last laugh before calling it a night, as she pressed her cold hands to Jimin's neck to force him into consciousness and back to a proper bed.
The very next morning, Jimin opened the photo album only to come face-to-face with the single most embarrassing image of his career placed carefully on display. "Hey!" He whined indignantly.
"Hm?" Mina's voice rang out from the kitchen, where she was making breakfast for the two of them.
Jimin ran in and showed her the photo album. "What's this for?"
Mina laughed. "Not my fault you were fast asleep."
"You-" Jimin chuckled and placed the album on their kitchen counter before reaching in to tickle her sides. "I'll get you back for that."
Mina giggled and pleaded for him to let her go. "I'm holding your breakfast, it's not my problem if it ends up on the floor."
Perhaps this was the true start to the photo fiasco. Jimin was not kidding when he said he would get her back. Only a couple days later, they were up bright and early in the morning, getting ready for another bout of long, hard, work hours.
"Well, well, well... Who finally decided to get out of bed?" Jimin grinned.
Mina just mumbled incoherently in response on her way to the bathroom. After her ritual morning routine, she stumbled out and shivered in the cold morning air of the living room.
Still half asleep, Mina made to pull a large wool-knit sweater over her head. Instead, some of the clasps on her shirt slipped through the loops, rendering her trapped inside her own jacket.
Jimin entered the living room seconds later with a coffee in hand, and was greeted by the sight of a tangle of arms and sleeves as Mina continued to struggle. He chuckled, setting the coffee down on the table.
"I can hear you," Mina grunted, still trying to fight her way out of the oversized garment. "Help me, please."
Mina slumped down, having given up and resorted to waiting for Jimin to free her.
"Give me one second," Jimin saw the opportunity and planned on taking it. He quickly retrieved the Polaroid and snapped a shot of her unfortunate situation. After placing the new picture in the album, Jimin hurriedly tugged the sweater off.
Mina made to leave, but Jimin pulled her back in for a hug, pressing his forehead to hers. "Got you back."
"What?" Mina looked up at him quizzically.
He shoved the album in her hands, cackling as he sauntered off.
"Hey!" Mina laughed indignantly as she looked at the new photo, proudly framed beside the one of him.
It was the start of a cherished tradition.
By the end of the year, the album was full of unappealing photos and the memories they held. There was one of Jimin stuck in a children's swing. One of Mina sprawled on the floor after tripping on her own blankets. Another of Jimin laughing so hard his drink spewed out his nose. One of Mina forgetting to put on the lid before turning on the blender.
The photo album was not pretty by any means. In fact, they would be mortified if any of those photos were to be leaked out to the public. However, they held fond memories worthy of being remembered for years to come.
Every once in a while, Jimin and Mina would come back to that photo album, whether it be to reminisce or to add to their collection. Either way, each precious photo, without fail, sent them into peals of laughter. The album, a warm blanket, and two people huddled closely together on the living room sofa was undoubtedly the perfect way to end an evening.
