Chapter 2
New Beginnings"Leaving?"
Uncomfortable, I shifted my weight between my feet and avoided my parents eyes. I awkwardly tugged my grey ponytail tighter in nerves. "I wanted to tell you both sooner, but you were both so busy that I didn't want to disturb you."
"But what about the kids? With you gone, who will..." Mom seemed to realize halfway through her argument that there actually weren't any more kids to take care of. "Oh... right."
"You both have jobs that keep your full attention," I shrugged. "But with all the kids gone now, it almost feels like I don't have a purpose anymore. It's time for me to finally find my place in the world."
Mom's brows were still furrowed but she nodded her head in acceptance/approval. I was grateful she realized that I needed this.
"When do you plan on going?" Dad asked.
"Oh.. um... Right now actually."
"So suddenly?" Mom blurted. "What about packing?"
Pleased that she cared about me, I let myself smile and lifted my bag sheepishly. "We did it all last night. I've gotten a lot of practice from packing everyone else up."
"Looks like you're all ready to go then."
I nodded, slipping on my backpack. "We're going to head to the nearest Professor and get the rest of the stuff we need and then we'll be on our way. So... I guess this is goodbye. I... I love you guys." I said awkwardly but gave them both quick hugs before making my way to the door.
"We... We love you too." Mom said.
Smiling, I gave her an acknowledging nod before gesturing with my head for Eevee to follow me. Eevee bounded after me down the steps of our house and with one last look to my parents, I gave a small wave.
"Good - Good luck." Dad finally said.
Again, I nodded and gave a soft smile before heading out on the start of the newest chapter of my life.
"You ready for this Eevee?" I asked my Pokemon who was eyeing me eagerly, ready for me to lead the way.
"Eevee E!" She shouted, eyes closed in excitement.
"Yeah." I laughed. "I thought you were going to say that. Now, let's go find the Professor!"
Together we both took off in a run to where our town's Professor was.
Truthfully, I had never been to the Professor's before. By now, almost everyone had already visited the lab and started their own journey, but I had yet to. Even with sending my siblings off, I never had the chance because they were always ready to be on their own beforehand so said goodbye at the house. This would be my first time visiting any type of Professor's lab. From what I heard though, they all seemed to be the same except for the different people who ran them, and depending on what region you were in, what Starter Pokemon they carried. But I didn't need a starter Pokemon because I already had Eevee. The only thing we needed now were the supplies that everyone else had gotten nearly 10 years before me.
Once we arrived at the large building, Eevee and I slowed down and caught our breath before looking at each other and walking in.
Following the signs, we were led into an open room with hundreds of books on nearly every wall and lots of high tech computers. "Eevee." Eevee said in awe, looking around as we walked further inside. Across the room, a woman was rushing around but she saw us before we saw her and suddenly appeared at an inhuman speed in front of us.
