King [5]

A day past from that incident.

I was sitting in the same room they had put me in. It was huge, and I didn't even know why I was in there. It felt so empty. It was still dark out, but I knew it was morning. Perhaps 3 or 4 am. Even so, I couldn't sleep. I slowly got up with tired eyes, stumbling a little as I hadn't really walked in a long time. The pain in my stomach was intense as I walked, but I completely ignored it, having learnt how to over the last 3 years.

I looked out of a window, looking up at the sky. It was like a mystery to me. I hadn't seen it in 3 years. Literally. I had forgotten how breathtaking the sight of just the stars in the sky had looked. The moon glistened, shining brighter than all the other stars, grabbing my attention. I slowly walked over to the balcony, pulling the doors open, feeling the cold breeze brush past my face instantaneously. I had a clearer view of the astonishing night sky, placing my hands against the cold stone fencing, eyes attached to the sky, having been captivated by the view. Each colour stood out. I was able to see it so very clearly, despite the blurry eyesight.

I felt something warm touch around me, despite the coldness of the wind, making me flinch a little.

"Gosh, at least put on your coat if you're gonna go out here," I heard a male's voice whisper as they put a coat on my shoulders, giving me a little more warmth.

Recognising the voice, I turned around, seeing messy pitch black hair and pale skin, seeing it a little less clearly as it was very dark.

"Y-Your ma- highness," I spoke, about to say 'your majesty', out of habit, voice a little crooked as I did a traditional bow.

"No need to bow. And you were right the first time. But you needn't call me majesty. It makes me feel too formal. Call me Kuroo" he replied, making me a little confused.

I nodded in response. "Yes, Mr.. Kuroo. "

"Pardon my manners but.. You're the king..?" I asked, eyes slightly widening as confusion slowly faded with the idea that the last king might've died. That would've explained it, although I was unsure if I were correct.

"Mmhm~," he replied as he crossed his arms, leaning them on the stone fence as he leaned forward, looking up at the stars. "Father left a couple days ago."

I then was able to confirm my idea of the king having died, and that would've explained a little more of why I was able to get out, but still didn't answer why the new king didn't treat me like the others did.

"..E-Excuse me, but.. Why did you let me out?" I asked, having wanted to know for a while now as it had been weighing my mind.

In fact, I had billions of questions with absolutely no lead to answers.

The man who they called, Kuroo, then smiled at me, leaning closer gently. "That's for me to know, and for you to find out."

"A sly one, aren't you, sir?" I whispered, only to try covering it up with a fake cough in embarrassment. I hadn't intended to speak out of turn. "Pardon me.."

The man seemed amused. He smiled, lifting my face up to look at him. "You're not like the others are you, cutie?"

"That's for me to know, and for you to find out," I responded quickly.

He didn't seem to get mad. It confused me. This man.. he was nothing like his father. He chuckled softly, and let go, stepping back inside. "I like you. Join me for a stroll tomorrow, will you? I'll have servants deliver a change of clothes."

"I'll accept on the condition that I'm not being watched all night again," I joked.

"Oh please. I merely felt a gush of wind from the direction of your room, don't think you're that special that I'd pay nightly visits," he replied. The smirk was so obviously there. I wouldn't even have to look to know, his voice said it all. "..Well, yet," he winked, and turned his back, on his way to the door.

"Get some sleep. I wish to see you ready tomorrow, not a set of tired eyebags. Good night," was all he said before leaving, with the door closed.

The silence filled the air. It almost made me miss the strange man. But he was right. Tomorrow, I was going to get a set of answers. Without rest, I would barely process any of it. Closing the door, I took the coat off, placing it neatly on a nearby seat, and then laid down on the luxurious bed. I stared into the ceiling lost in thought.

With him, words flowed oh so easily. It felt so comfortable. So peaceful. It was such a shame I couldn't look him in the eyes properly. Not with the horrible eyesight I have, of course.

So I slept on it. Slumber pulled me into it's own wonderland of thoughts and ideas. Maybe. Just maybe. I'd be allowed to leave, if this man is now in control. Maybe, I'd be free.
