I saw the exact moment he melted.
When the aggression left his body.
The moment he saw her eyes shine with tears and hurt.
I noticed because I'd been friends with him since high school.
Okay, friends was a bit of a stretch.
Acquaintances.
Okay, still a bit of a stretch.
Fine.
He'd asked me if he could borrow a pencil once when I was a Sophomore.
But I'd never really made any close friends during High School.
So I did what any person in my position would.
Observe.
So I saw.
When his stance became less defensive. When his hands and jaw unclenched.
When his eyes became wide with worry as he saw the tears beginning to form in her eyes.
I also noticed that pretty much everyone else's eyes were on them too.
Not mine though.
Not really.
My eyes were on the human being slightly behind him.
My eyes watched his eyes.
My eyes had always only ever watched his eyes and his had always watched everywhere but mine.
