After everyone had settled down, Alex and Jason walked over to Piper so he could formally ask both of them to join him on the quest.
Piper had still been in a state of shock, but she agreed as she rubbed her arms, which must've been cold in that sleeveless dress.
"Aphrodite took my snowboarding jacket," she muttered. "Mugged by my own mom."
Alex slid off the coat she had gotten when her clothes changed and offered it to Piper.
"I'm practically melting with all of these layers," she told Piper when she started to shake her head.
"We'll get you a new jacket," Jason promised her.
She managed a smile and Alex couldn't help but tell that she was uncomfortable.
"I think you looked better without everything that Aphrodite put on you," Alex told her bluntly.
Alex was extremely glad Piper was coming on the quest instead of Drew. Piper may not be the stereotypical Aphrodite daughter, but she would rather have her than a whinny Drew that would be a million feet under before they even get to the so-called cage in the prophecy.
Eventually they all headed their seperate ways to their own cabins. Alex noticed that she could see a lot better than she could before in the dark, like she had night vision for being the daughter of the goddess of the moon. She shrugged away the thought and headed to Cabin Eight, which was glowing a bright silver in the night.
Alex knew she should go to bed, but she felt energized under the moonlight. She decided to head into the silent cabin and look through everything she had in her backpack.
The inside of the cabin is exactly what you would think of for the goddess of the hunt. The walls were a silvery color, and covered in various animal pelts. The blankets on the beds were also animal pelts, which made them soft and very warm. On one of the beds were a couple of orange t-shirts like the one all the campers wore.
Alex sat down on the nearest bed and slid off her backpack that she'd been carrying around all day. She sometimes forgot she even had it on. As she looked through it she found several clothes and bottles of water, and some preserved foods. She had more ropes and knives as well along with a canteen labeled 'nectar for emergencies' and a tube of crackers labeled 'ambrosia for emergencies'. The thing that surprised her the most was finding a small leather book which pages were beaten and old.
"I have a journal?" Alex asked herself when opening it up.
When she flipped to an earlier page she saw a date written in the top left corner in messy handwriting. It said:
'May 7th 2001
I met a friend today. She said her name is Annabeth. We're friends now. She also ran from her home, but she didn't meet a goddess like me. When I told her it was my seventh birthday she smiled and told me she was seven too. I know I won't age like I'm 'posed now that I'm part goddess, but I still feel seven. I'll still keep track. Now we're surviving together. I'm happy. It feels right.
-Alex Wolf
Alex was surprised that she could read it so easily and that none of the words were misspelled. But she was glad that she had found something from her past. It also explained why she looked forteen when Annabeth knew her when she was seven.
Alex desperately wanted to keep reading the journal, but she knew it was important to go to bed so that's what she did. She changed into some pants she found in her backpack and one of the orange shirts before climbing into bed. When she finally fell asleep, after a very long time of just laying in bed, she was glad to find that she didn't dream.
