Hi everyone! If your new here, Welcome! And if you've read my stories before, welcome back! I've been working on this book for a while now and finally have enough to start posting. I hope you like it! I certainly had a lot of fun writing it. Before you read, I just want to say thank you so so much for 52K reads on 'Half Human" and 2K reads on "licensed for Revenge". If you haven't read those go check them out. Plus I'm almost at 70 followers! Thank you!!! I'll make this short, I hope you enjoy! Remember to like and comment! 👋😊💜"It was a dark and stormy night.." I read aloud to the kids at the hospital. They were all seated close to my legs, anticipation running through their little bodies to find out what happens to the main character.
"Miss J, I'm scared." Says one of the children. I could see the build up of tears that were ready to fall at any moment.
"Don't worry. It's just a story. Here, you can sit in my lap." I scooped her up and went on reading.
I was nearing the end of the book when a big clap of thunder was heard from outside.
"Ahhhhhh!" Everyone screamed. Even the other adults, plus myself jumped at the sound. The kids all huddled closer to me. Evie, the little girl in my lap, wrapped her small arms around my arm.
"Ok. Maybe we should end for tonight. You guys have a big day tomorrow! You should be well rested."
"Awww. Please Miss J. Can we just hear one more book?" One little girl named Rosie asked.
"I'm sorry Rosie. How about this. I'll read two extra books for you next week." The group cheered. They all quickly got up and went to their beds.
"Good night everyone. Sleep tight. See you next week!" I say quietly while leaving.
"I don't know how you do it. Those kids love you." My coworker María says as we walk out of the hospital. María started two weeks ago, and as of next month she will be taking my job. I was being transferred to a different hospital closer to the city.
"Hey, they love you too. I've seen how they act when you read and take care of them. You will do amazing." I smile. Another clap of thunder was heard, followed by a downpour of rain. We both ran to the covered carport.
"Drive safely María! Have a good night!" I say getting into my car.
"Same to you Y/n! Drive safely." I start my car and head to the highway.
"Wow. It's really pouring hard." I turn on the radio for some music. Traffic was moving slower than usual, which lead me to the conclusion that an accident happened. I decided to get off and take the back roads to my house. The roads were slick, but I didn't want to be stuck in traffic. I was almost home when a bolt of lightning hit the ground 100 feet away from my car. I pushed hard onto the breaks. Quickly coming to a stop, I look out my rain covered window and see where the bolt hit the ground.
"Woah." I sit back and catch my breath. Right before I started to drive, I saw something in the road. More like someone. Well, at least it looked like a person. He was curled up right where the bolt hit the road. I quickly grabbed my umbrella from the backseat and got out of my car. I walked over to what I can clearly see is a man.
"Are you ok sir?" I ask. I kneel down beside him to see if he's alright. I hear a groan come from this mystery man as he turns flat on his back. He was beautiful. His hair was jet black. His skin was pale, but not sickly pale. He had bruises and cuts all up and down his arms and neck. There was also a cut along his cheek, and what looked like a tear in his ear from an earring being ripped out. I was at a loss of words. but I quickly shook out of my trance when he quickly sat up, looking around.
"Sir? Are you alright?" I put my hand on his shoulder, which I quickly regretted. His head darted in my direction. His eyes were glowing red. Quickly, I took my hand off his shoulder and backed up a little. His eyes didn't look evil, they were soft. More full of confusion than anything.
"Where am I? Who are you? How did I get here?"
"Well, you are in the middle of a road, on route 85 to be exact, and I don't know how you got here. But, my name is Jung Y/n. And I'm a nurse. If you want, I can take you back to my house and clean you up. Then you can be on your way." I say. He looks around again, then back at me. Then to the sky. I put my umbrella over him.
"It's the least I can do. I'd feel guilty leaving you out here in the rain." He tries to stand, but as soon as he straightens, he topples over. I was able to catch him before he hit the ground. All he did was nod his head. I helped him stand and walk to the passenger seat of my car. For someone who looked five seven, he was really light. Dangerously light to be exact. I opened the passenger door and he slid into the seat. Closing the door, I quickly walked to the other side and got In. He had his head resting on the window. His wet hair covering his eyes. I found a blanket and put it on top of him, and started to make my way home.☆
