"Here, you can sit in front of the fire to warm you up. I'll go and find some fresh clothes for you." I ran upstairs and found some sweatpants and an oversized t-shirt that my brother left behind from his last visit.
"Here. You can wear these until your clothes are cleaned and dry.." I said walking back to the living room. He was standing, but not by the fire. He was over by the window. Just looking outside.
"Sir?" He turned around and bowed.
"I'm sorry. Thank you for the dry clothes." He walks over to me and takes them.
"Thank you for the hospitality." He bows again.
"The bathroom is down the hall and to the left." I point. He nods and walks in that direction. As soon as I hear the door shut, I quickly run to the kitchen to heat up some leftover soup from the other night. A few minutes later, he comes back. He sits down in front of me at the counter.
"Aren't you cold? Don't you want to go sit by the fire?" I suggest, seeing him physically shaking.
"I-I'm fine.." he says looking down at the ground.
"oh, alright. You can take a blanket from the couch to wrap around you." He nods, but doesn't move. I watch him over my shoulder while I finish preparing his bowl. He honestly looked terrified. That if someone caught him, he'd be in serious trouble. He would flinch every time thunder was heard.
"Here. This will warm you up." I hand him some soup and he takes it carefully. I watch him sit and eat for a little bit. While he started to eat, I could see his expression turn from completely terrified to a little more welcoming. I took this as my chance to ask my questions that I had.
"So. Do you have a name?" I didn't look up from my bowl.
"My name is Park ji- Christian. It's Christian."
Did He say Park?
"Oh. Well nice to meet you Christian." All he does is nod. I hear another clap of thunder from outside. Then the lights went out. Christian drops his bowl, shattering it into a million pieces. He gasps
"I'm so sorry. I'll clean this up. I- the thunder-"
"Hey, it's alright. I'll clean this up. There's no need to apologize." Through the dark I can hear him trying to clean up as much as he could. Then following a small ''ouch''.
"Christian honey, go and sit in the living room. I'll clean this up, get us some candles and now a first aid kit for your hand." Yes it was dark, but I could see perfectly well that he cut his hand.
I walked around my kitchen, trying to find extra candles and a first aid kit. When I had everything I went to go meet Christian back in the living room. When I got closer, I could hear someone talking.
Christian?
I sneak up and listen in.
".... I already said no. I'm not signing anything. You won't make me into you. I won't let that happenr." Then thunder rang through the house.
What in the world—
I walk back into the living room.
"Hey. I found candles... Are you ok?" I say grabbing the matches from the top of the bookshelf.
"Yea. I'm fine. Just tired." I nod. The whole time, I was taking mental notes.
He is part of the park family. (all I remember from school is that the park family is a mystery). And he won't sign something. Hmmmm.
When the candles were lit, I placed them on the far end of the coffee table so I had room to bandage his hand. He put his hand palm up on my knees as I opened the first aid kit.
"How old are you Christian?" I ask while tending to his wound.
"I'm 21. What about you?"
"I'm 20... If it's not much, could you tell me why you were outside in the pouring rain?" I sat back down next to him, warming up my hands by the fire.
"I- I was looking for someone. My car broke down and mmm..." he pauses, not wanting to finish his sentence.
"Ahh, I see. is there a way you can contact this person?" He shook his head.
"I- uh- lost my phone while looking for him and I don't know his number from the top of my head." I nod and finish bandaging up his hand.
"There you go. All better. There's a guest bedroom down the hall if you want to sleep here for the night. Then you can be on your way in the morning." He just nods. I sat next to him on the couch for a little while, then realized about the other marks on his face and ear.
"Do you mind if I clean those other cuts as well?"
"Hmm? Oh, I don't mind. The cut on my cheek was stinging a bunch. It'll be nice to get it cleaned." He gave me the tiniest smile. Once again, I started treating his wounds. When I was almost finished, Chimmy, my cat, came out of my room.
"Oh! Christian. This is my cat Chimmy. I hope you're not allergic. If you are, I can put her back in my room." He shook his head. Chimmy climbed onto the couch and layed down in his lap.
"Wow. That's the first time she's done that with a stranger. Do you have a pet at your house?"
"No. Well, I did have a puppy when I was younger. I named it Bear because he looked like a mini bear. Then he came into my-" Thunder shook through the house Making us both flinch. "...then Bear just, disappeared." He finished.
"Aww. That's a shame. Well, It's getting late. I cleaned out the wound on your cheek, but I'm not quite sure on what to do about the cut in your ear. I could take you in to get stitches back at work-"
"No. It's alright. It's an old wound. Thank you though." He says, lifting his hand away from Chimmy.
"Ah, which room was the guest room again?" I picked up Chimmy from the floor and got up.
"First door on the right down the hall. I'm right across the hall if you need anything." I opened the guest room door for him and he looked around.
"Make yourself at home. I hope the storm doesn't keep you up all night. Sleep well."
"Thank you." He said before I shut the door. I gave him a warm smile and left for my room.
As I was getting ready for bed, I still had loads of unanswered questions in my head. The one that keeps popping up is about his last name. Nowadays, no one has the last name of Park. Curious, I grabbed my laptop and decided to search the web.
"Woa..." the park family is an ancient bloodline. The last known member of the park family was a 32 year old male who died in a gunfight 100 years ago. Supposedly, the park family was in with gangs and drug cartels."
The article read. Hmmm..
" After the last Park died, legend said he sold his soul to the devil to keep on living. He then met a woman where they instantly fell in love and had two sons. But when the devil found out about this, he took the man's life and kidnapped his wife and two sons. They were forced to live in the underworld for eternity. Finally having the Park name burn out."
That's odd. If Christian's last name is Park. Then that means he's-
"Am I interrupting anything? I just have a question to ask." Christian says, startling me.
"Ummm. Nothing. Just some work things. What do you need?" I closed the lid of the laptop as he got closer.
"I, uhh, I was just wondering where those extra blankets were. The ones you told me about?"
"Oh! I can show you where they are." I get up and walk back to the guest room. I open the closet and open a cupboard revealing the blankets.
"There you go. Is there anything else you need?"
"No. That's it. Thank you." Before I left, thunder shook the house. Christian practically jumped five feet when he heard it. He collided into me, wrapping his hands around my arm. His hands were ice cold. No wonder he asked for extra blankets. It took a lot not to flinch. When he realized that he was really close, he quickly stepped back.
"Sorry. I'm just not a fan of thunderstorms." I chuckle.
"Don't worry. My mother used to tell me that God was bowling with his friends. That's where the sound comes from. And the lightning is just him taking pictures of the wins he has." I chuckle at the memory that happened a long time ago. I looked over at Christian. He didn't look so convinced.
"Well, I'm sorry to be a downer. But, as you said. The sound is from the sky. But, the lightning is from the ground. It's the devil, trying to tell the gods to be quiet." He says in a dark tone.
"Oh?? I didn't know that." He nods. I try and think of something to say to change the subject, but he speaks first.
"It's late. You should get to bed." He says. I give him a nod.
"Ok. Well, sleep good. Goodnight Christian." When I got back to my room, I decided to take his word and get to bed.
