They always say 'the third time is a charm', but this wasn't the case for Daniel Bertwick. You see, usually women grow up dreaming of the day when they get married and settle down, where they can be treated like a princess and feel like one too, however; Daniel felt the same exact way, but as a prince of course. Daniel grew up in the hustle and bustle of metro- Atlanta, and was used to rushing, so when he approached his early twenties, he knew it was his time to fly into marriage and find the one he loved....the one he loved....the one he loved...
Well, let's just say he thought he had found the woman of his dreams three times now, and he was secure. He was also mentally prepared, but every time he was ready to get down on one knee, these perfect women disappeared. He was sure this last person was his soulmate, but when he discussed with his relatives and friends that he was ready to buy the ring, she vanished. Out of thin air, their existences all fled from his life, like a bird when filled will fear...they fluttered and fluttered away fast, leaving Daniel with yet another hole in his heart. So, this left Daniel with a sour taste in his mouth when it came to love. He was a wealthy real estate agent in a booming city, selling sky rise condos, and mansions on the outskirts of town. He had all the money any woman could ever ask for, he was by all means not a sight for sore eyes. He worked so hard to be this successful, starting first in the military and then bringing himself up. Daniel Bertwick, age 29, height 6'0" on the dot, dark thick hair, brooding blue eyes that you can see from a mile away. Organized, attentive, punctual, and any other word you can think of that sounds like someone who is put together. That was it, maybe it was him. He decided now it was a time for change.
In his military years, he was stationed in this town and it grew on him. For this town barely had history, and was only in existence because of the air force base that kept it alive. This town consisted of three major roadways, all identical and all in the same direction. He liked how organized it was with it's consistency and conformity. This was the perfect town for him to start over, it had no history which was perfect because he was trying to erase his own and have a blank slate. He didn't even have to go through the trouble of getting out of the state, and he was close enough to his home that he could visit his family often. Especially his mother, Patricia, who raised him all alone. Without her, he wouldn't be the same man he is today.
Growing up, Daniel went through several fathers, and they all treated his mother terribly. He made a promise to himself and his mother, that he would never treat any woman that way, and with that he was always on top of his emotions to prevent that. He attended therapy every month on the first week and took the proper medications to prevent outbursts. He blames himself for scaring off each woman he has gotten close with because he let his emotions get the best of him. His real father, who he didn't even know, was an alcoholic of course, and had a range of mental disorders ranging from bipolar to ADHD. Before Daniel was born his mother had tried so hard to save their marriage, but it got nasty, or so Daniel was told.
This little town, near the heart of Georgia, located on the eastern side of the United States was calling his name. He needed this and he knew this was his chance to find love. He would be leaving in a week, and he wanted to do so just like those three women, he wanted to vanish. It made his heart ache even more to not tell anyone of his departure, packing began soon.
