and tired of the way that things have been

It was a rainy afternoon and all Rikki wanted to do was lay in bed and read, but she had to go into Forks to see the Chief of Police, Charlie Swan. Rikki had met Charlie before do to her closeness with the Blacks and the Clearwaters. However, Rikki had not met his daughter.

Charlie wanted to introduce the two girls in hopes that Bella could have another friend from the Rez since she liked being there with Jacob. Charlie noticed that ever since Jake had gotten sick, Bella had been falling into old habits like staring at the kitchen phone and getting nightmares. It was worrying him to no extent.

A knock at the front door brought him out of his thoughts. The Chief opened the door to find the young girl standing on the other side, a bright smile upon her face. The petite girl was clad in a deep red sweater, black leggings, and brown combat boots. The only makeup on her face was mascara and her curly brown hair was pulled into a messy ponytail.

"Hi, Chief! How are you?" Charlie smiled awkwardly at the girl's kindness.

"I'm doing just fine. Come on in," Rikki stepped over the threshold, admiring the home. Rikki followed Charlie into the little kitchen, watching him refill his empty coffee mug.

Footsteps coming down the stairs ended Charlie's attempt to start a conversation before it even began. A beautiful girl came into the kitchen, mouth open to begin talking, but stopping short when her eyes fell on the small girl.

"Bella, perfect timing. Rikki, this is my daughter Bella. Bella, this is Rikki Walker; she lives on the Rez," Bella grinned awkwardly at the younger girl, receiving a shy wave in response. The older girl inwardly 'awed' at the girl who was obviously a few years younger than herself.

"Would you like to hang out?" Bella asked Rikki upon seeing her father's hopeful look. Truthfully, Bella wanted to see if the girl knew anything about Jacob, but she wouldn't mind getting to know Rikki a little either. Bella nodded her head and led the small girl up to her room.

At first, the conversations were slightly forced, but as more time passed the girls found themselves laughing together, sharing jokes, and telling funny stories. Around seven thirty, Rikki claimed that she needed to go home, and Bella gladly drove her back to the Rez. Only after Bella was on her way home from dropping Rikki off did she realize that the young girl had successfully took her mind of of Edward and Jacob.

Upon arriving home, Bella walked inside to find Charlie watching a baseball game on the television. Charlie looked away from the game after hearing the front door close.

"Did you like her?" Bella plopped down next to her father, taking a handful of popcorn from the discarded bowl on the coffee table.

"Yeah, she was really sweet. I think I'm gonna head to bed," Charlie nodded as Bella stood up and made her way to her bedroom.

Settling into her desk chair, Bella hesitated before opening the lid of her laptop. Her fingers hovered over the keys before typing her thoughts.

Dear Alice,

I've always wanted a little sister. I think I might have found one today...
