"I'm Kikuko, Daisuke's grandmother." Kambe's elder mother presented herself formally to you and Haru.
"I'm Haru Kato," Haru said whilst slightly lowering his head. Now that the attention's on you, you grinned like a Cheshire cat, with the person sitting beside you who had known you for years already knowing what was up behind that beam.
"I am L/n Y/n, your future granddaughter-in-law."
Haru choked on thin air, Suzuke covered her mouth to conceal the small smile that she wore, and Kambe was still as placid as ever. And if truth be told, it was as though he had no objection at all.
"Is that so," Kikuko giggled lightheartedly. "I would love to welcome you in our family," she continued, before ensuingly tittering.
"With all of that having been set aside, thank you for taking care of Daisuke," she extended her gratitude to you two. "You're welcome," Haru spluttered, before glimpsing at the man in question.
"Oh, it's no problem at all. In fact, I wouldn't even mind spending my remaining days here on Earth with him," you jested, but jokes were half meant most of the time which meant that you were saying the truth for about a whopping 50 percent.
Suzue had gone and imparted the gifts that she got from Hongkong to her relative. Furtively scrutinizing the area, it was different from what you had imagined. It was less modern than you envisioned and well, considering her age, perhaps she preferred places with a much more traditional design.
"Let's share them with everyone," Kikuko benevolently gave each and every one of you a piece of the dessert that she had been given. And for the time being, she chose to ask how her grandson had been doing in his new work. Kambe's answer wasn't eloquent nor articulate but rather quite curt. Despite it being short, it did its purpose of it being straight to the point.
"This boy was spoiled growing up, so I hope he didn't cause you two too much trouble." Kikuko had an unpleasant expression on her countenance. "Not at all, Daisuke has been very helpful." In your perspective, this was just him trying to try and alleviate the concerns of the older woman present in the room.
"I second that. In fact, his presence alone greatly contributes to the lessening of the loneliness in my heart," and you ended it with you placing a hand right where the mentioned organ sat. Unlike Haru who had been spreading white lies, you were proud to say that you'd been veritably forthright since the beginning.
Haru continued from where you left off, "However, when it comes to money, he thinks differently from the rest of us. So he always creates chaos at work."
The taupe-nette was holding himself back from landing a hit on your head while he was talking. If you two weren't in front of Kambe's grandmother, he would do so in a fraction of a second. Seriously, why were you even so interested in Kambe? You two had been in a relationship (as friends, but Haru would like to spare himself from the ache by saying that) far longer than you had been with the newcomer. So instead of that man clad in a suit, why wouldn't you just pick him instead? He would take care of you far better than that man who couldn't function without spending money.
Without mincing words, he wouldn't be this anxious had Kambe did not show interest in you. In the photo that Mita had sent him, he saw that while you weren't affected at all with flirting since you did it 24/7, he saw that Kambe had shown quite the reaction that made him clench his fist involuntarily just from the mere thought of that black-haired man catching feelings for you as well.
He wasn't as blind as you to not notice that Hoshino, from the other department, had been pining on you for the longest of time ever since you entered the force, even if the lad himself was unaware of it. For the love of god, couldn't you just stop attracting people unconsciously even for just a minute?
"Daisuke." Kikuko piped up.
"Yes."
"Do not make things difficult for your colleagues."
"Yes." Poor Kambe, Haru didn't hesitate at all in tattling about him.
"Haru, Y/n, if you don't mind me asking, how old are you?" The woman with the white hair quizzed.
"I'm 30 years old," flung back Haru.
"25 years old, ma'am," you responded.
"Then Haru, please give Daisuke some guidance on both career and life. And Y/n, even if you may be two years younger than my grandson, I hope that you still will be able to the same thing," the elder implored with a bow. Haru had beaten you by speaking first, "You can count on me. I will do my best to turn him into a good cop!" As expected.
Kambe started giving Haru the stink eye so Kikuko scolded him for it by saying his name out loud. Unwilling to foster an argument with his grandmother, he kept all thoughts to himself and just went along with a, "Please don't hesitate to offer your advice."
With all attention poured on you, it was an opening for you to shine. "I'll do my best. As a friend and as an upcoming partner in life." This was the best answer you could give. And if you were able to give it a rating, it'd be an 11 out of 10.
"It'll be nice having you as a granddaughter, Y/n. The Kambe clan is in need of an heir and I'm confident that you and Kambe will be the perfect partner for that."
Kambe inwardly smirked, smug all of a sudden with his grandmother approving his hypothetical relationship with you. It was only a matter of time before that supposition transforms into credence.
'I received one of his family member's blessing, score,' you thought, blissful.
With the visiting now done and out of the way, Kambe had been assigned to give both of his co-workers a ride. "Y/n and I are going to Nagoya tomorrow for business," Haru said while seated on the back seat. "Remember not to make things difficult for your colleagues," he finalized with a teasing tone.
Irked, Kambe stepped on the acceleration causing the car's speed to increase. Speeding up means that there was a chance of this car hitting something... And that it meant that it wouldn't just be double self-slaughter but triple!
"Kambe... Faster!"
