I rounded the corner of the dark hall, of which seemed to have no end.
Gasping for air, I hesitated for a moment to spin around to glance back at the entrance. The light of the entrance was faint from where I stood now, but I could still tell it was radiant with glow.
Staring back, I reflected upon my decision. I realized that making the decision was the worst thing in my entire lifetime.
I sit down on the damp ground for a minute, recording the last of my words on my notepad. I doodled a few designs as I waited, anxious of what was to come. Snapping the battered pad of paper shut, I tucked it back into my pouch and stood up.
I closed my tired, sunken eyes for a bit, trying to remember the life I had before. I tried to grasp onto the last tendril of peace before it vanished completely.
I heard the all-too-familiar sound of footsteps echoing in the dark hallway, the echoes slowly headed for my direction.
I smiled, opened my eyes, and started to run ahead.
I had nothing left, and running away was all I could do to postpone what was destined to come.
I halted at the dead end, panting heavily, dripping with sweat, after running as fast as I could.
My legs gave from all the running that I had done, which was all I did, ever since I made the decision. I fell onto my knees, waiting for the end to come.
The eerie sounds of footsteps were heard once again.
One step, two steps, three steps.
I waited some more, impatient. This time, as the echoes drew nearer, I smirked.
A cold hand rested on my shoulder as I fought back the urge to laugh.
Slowly, I stood up and winced as my legs almost gave out. I turned around to face the being.
“Well, it’s about time you caught up to me. You know, I’m not a very patient person.” I sneered. “So, how long will it be this time?”
The dark demon smiled, and then….
All was black.
