Rose

I know that I probably shouldn't have ignored Albus for a week but he deserved it. His new 'best friend' was Scorpius Malfoy of all people! Ferret spawn! I knew that it was only a matter of time before Al would come running back to me in tears because Malfoy did something to him. But until then I couldn't be seen with Albus. Unfortunately it was getting harder and harder to ignore him and I wasn't sure how much longer I would have to keep this up. Luckily I wouldn't have to for long.

It was barely noticeable. But I could hear it. I knew for a fact that the person crying was Albus Severus Potter. Ha. Anyways, I followed the noise into a broom closet where, sure enough, Albus was curled up, crying.

"Al?" I said cautiously.

"R-Rose? He-he was m-mean to m-me," Albus told me, tears still running down his face. I crouched down and hugged him.

"Who was it?" I asked, already knowing exactly who it was.

"K-Kevin Goyle. 4th year."

WHAT!? Kevin Goyle!

"But Malfoy?" I asked, trying to figure out what was going on.

"Scorpius?" He asked, giving me a weak smile, "Scorpius would be here but he went to deal with Goyle."

"He is?" I asked completely confused.

"Yeah. Scorp is the best," Albus replied, no longer crying.

"But he is a Malfoy?" I said, utterly baffled.

"So?" Albus asked.

"Nothing, I guess. I still don't like him though," I replied. I decided that even though I would never be his friend I would accept that Albus is his friend and move on.

"Well we'd better get to DADA before we are late," I remarked, looking at my watch.

"But I forgot to do the homework!" Albus complained.

"Too bad. That is your fault entirely!" I said shocked, "Actually you need to start studying more." With that we walked down the hall toward DADA.

Even though I was still fuming at what Goyle said to Albus I decided that I would still go to defense against the dark arts. Mostly because we had it with the Gryffindors. Anyways, as I walked to DADA I saw Rose chatting with Al as they went to defense as well. I decided to join them. That was a mistake. When I reached them I decided to make myself known. Also, a mistake.

"Hi Al! Hi Rose!" I said all nice and cheerful. Rose looked at me for about half a second with a look of thankfulness, confusion, hatred, and about ten others. Then she said, "Bye Albus!" and ran off. Geez! Why does that girl hate me so much?

"Hey! I was talking to her!" Albus scolded, snapping me out of my thoughts.

"Well I didn't know she was going to run away like I am Voldemort or something!" I retorted.

"Ya know what? I don't really care. She was mostly telling me to study more anyways."

That is why I like Al so much. He never wants to fight unless he is defending someone he cares about.

"By the way, are you okay after what Goyle said?" I asked.

"Yeah. Rose helped a bit as well as you before she started lecturing me with my studying habits." Albus said.

"Ha!" I laughed. We mostly just chatted about random stuff the rest of the way to defense against the dark arts. When we arrived Professor Finch-Flechley  greeted us at the door. We walked in to find that all the desks were gone and it was just an empty classroom.

"Alright class! Today you will be learning how to disarm you opponent. I will split you up into pairs and then you will attempt to disarm each other!" The Professor said as he pulled out a sheet of paper with names.

"Now! The partners are as follows. Ophelia Nettle and Roxanne Weasley, Scorpius Malfoy and Rose Granger-Weasley, Albus Potter and..."

I didn't hear the rest. I looked at Rose and she was glaring at me. When Professor Finch-Flechley finished reading the partners he told us all to stand opposite our partners. Rose and I pointed our wands at each other and both shouted, "EXPELLIARMUS!" loud and clear. Both our wands shot green light at the other. The rays of light collided and exploded with a burst of pinkish-red. I had no idea what it meant but apparently Rose did. She stood there, shocked for a fraction of a second. Then she ran.

She avoided me as best she could for the rest of the year. Apparently Professor Finch-Flechley told the other teachers about what happened so no other teacher paired us up again. The year ended and we went home for summer. I saw Albus a couple times but somehow Rose managed to avoid me on the Fourth of July when all of Albus's family and me came over. I have to say, she was good. At least until next September 1st.

So, was that good? Did I end 1st year too soon? Tell me what you think. Love ya! -Rosalie
