Jasper's POV

Emmett and I sped through the forest, chasing the scent of animals blood. It was midnight, and the two of us hadn't been able to hunt for a week. We ran past trees and up hills at an inhuman speed, searching for animals to feed on.

All of a sudden, the scent of human blood overwhelmed me, and I was sure it did the same to Emmet. We immediately stopped in our tracks, forgetting about the animal scent we were chasing, and surveyed the area around us. Normally, if we picked up the scent of irresistible human blood, we try our best to ignore it, since we are vegetarians. This time, it was different. The smell of human blood was almost too overpowering. Emmet and I instantly knew something was wrong.

Emmet and I frantically looked around, feet glued to the ground, trying to find the source. Although vampires didn't need to breathe, I closed my eyes and took in a deep breath. My eyes snapped open and I quickly looked to the right, pin pointing the location of the scent.

"This way." I said and started to run in the direction of the scent, not bothering to glance at Emmet. Nevertheless, Emmet followed closed behind.

The scent of human blood grew stronger and stronger and we got closer to the source. It was more powerful than human blood would smell normally. That wasn't a good sign. That meant that there was probably something very wrong with the human that the scent was coming from. Something like an injury that would cause the human to loose a lot of blood, and therefore making it easier to smell.

As I quickly approached the source, I realized why it had been so powerful, and almost irresistible. I continued forward, eager to investigate as the source came into view.

I came to an abrupt stop as we reached the source. There had been a crash at the edge of the woods near the road. The car had slammed head on into a giant tree, crushing the front of the vehicle. There was obviously someone inside, just one person. That would make this a whole lot easier than if the car was filled.

Emmett and I walked closer to the car, examining the damage. I concluded that the car probably swerved off the road after seeing a deer or some other large animal in the middle of the road. Then, the car would have sped down the steep hill only metres away from the crash, and ultimately collided with the tree.

"Looks like someone had a bad day," Emmet commented with a smirk. I rolled my eyes and focused on the situation we were faced with.

I stepped even closer to the vehicle, and the smell of human blood overwhelmed me. I held my breath, even though I hadn't been breathing in the first place, and tried to resist the urge to suck all the rest of the blood out of the crash victim inside.

"Jasper, are you sure you'll be able to control yourself?" Emmet said as he appeared by my side, arms crossed over his chest. I glanced over at him and then looked back to the car.

"I think I can manage, yes," I replied. I was still learning how to control my urges when I smelt human blood, especially this powerful.

The last time I lost control was when Bella was still human, when she pricked her finger on her birthday. One little drop of blood and I completely lost it. Right now, there was a human in front of me that probably had multiple severe wounds causing her to loose a TON of blood. So far, I was doing pretty good at controlling myself.

"You sure?" Emmet asked, clearly not convinced.

I closed my eyes and attempted to calm myself down.

"Yes, now lets get on with it and save whoever's inside this car before it's too late" I replied. I was a little annoyed with Emmett for underestimating my ability to control my instincts right now, and I sure as hell let it show.
