flashback

It had been a few days after the rest of the losers realized that Bev and I had feelings for one another and were in fact dating. It's not that we kept it a secret, well, mostly. Because in the current year, people weren't as accepting of two people of the same sex dating. We honestly just thought it'd be funny to see how long it'd take our friends to figure it out, too.

Bev and I usually talked about it often and what loser would notice things first, so we held hands a lot more, flirted longer (which was already a long time to begin with) and well we didn't know it'd be Richie who would be the one to figure it out, and rather quickly, too.

"Look, I know you too are dating okay? Don't even try to lie, I'm the smartest one out of all of us." Richie said, all smug as he adjusted his glasses and let his attention return to the hypochondriac, who had been nearby, pestering Mike about some mud he had accidentally gotten on his shirt, and face, just minutes ago.

A slow grin spread across Richie's face as it quickly became red and he chuckled, which caught Eddie's attention.

"What are you laughing at, huh?! Do you realize how serious this is? I mean what if he slipped and had gotten the mud in his eyes instead?! He could've gone blind!" Eddie continued to stress, poor guy, and that only made Richie fall deeper in love than he already was.

But he didn't know what to do about it, if he should act on those feelings, that he always had but only took notice of them recently, the feelings that were also terrifying him.

"Ask him out." Bev said, not looking up from this magazine she had stolen from Greta, and she couldn't stop reading everything, quickly becoming fascinated with it, becoming almost consumed by it.

But not completely, as everyone once in a while, she'd glance up at me and smile, showing me her beautiful white teeth while looking so very happy, which I loved.

(Also, who knew Greta secretly liked monster trucks, huh?)

"What?!" Richie gasped, utterly shocked as if someone insulted his sense of fashion or his jokes.

"You can't be serious! Y/n, what is your girlfriend thinking? Crazy.." He whispered, hoping the gorgeous red head didn't hear him.

Unfortunately for him, she had.

Her head shot up quickly, eyes locking with his own and fear quickly filled Richie's eyes as she lunged at him, only for me to quickly and gently of course, pull her onto my lap and hug (restrain) her to keep her from killing him, or worse, let him live.. (but seriously injured)

"Bev, honey. Ignore him. He's just worried Eddie wouldn't say yes. It's obvious he likes you though, don't worry, Rich." I spoke, trying to relax her and then, had looked at him. (an angry but cute Bev glaring at him)

He breathed out and closed his eyes, as if my hopefully calming words would be just only a dream.

"Okay, and if he rejects me, I'm blaming you." He said, getting courage to ask his crush out and at the same time, confront his fear.

I glanced over at Bev's magazine while Richie did so, worried that me watching him would mess him up in any way, and noticed it began to move slightly from a small breeze.

"Bev, your magazine." I said quickly, trying to move to get it for her, but she barely moved to get it, not wanting to move away from me, and have the warmth she felt, disappear.
