THE RETURN

It was late at night a few days later when Dream returned to Mt. Ebott. His hiking backpack was filled with all the essentials for a Floridian camping trip, which was to say, enough rations for a month or two, a small purifier and a few canteens for potable water, firestarters, and every weapon Dream had in the house. His iron sword was hanging by his side in a sheath.

Dream had been unable to shake the sight of the pit atop the mountain. Even as he continued to upload videos those few days, his mind was elsewhere. He had barely even managed to win the last Minecraft Manhunt! It was only due to a sheer blunder on one TommyInnit's part that he managed to get the last hit on the Ender Dragon as he fell into the void. He had died, but he got the achievement, which meant he won.

The comments had been crazy.

Dream passed the clearing where he and George had picnicked the day they climbed. The grass was still disturbed where they had sat. Dream thought about how George had choked, and he had saved him, and then held him for a while without realizing, and...

Dream wished he could have taken George on this trip, but it was something he had to do alone. For some reason, he just... felt that way.

He continued to climb the mountain, his sword bouncing against his hip. It was a little easier without George slowing him down, but the darkness made it harder at the same time. He was constantly on guard at the slightest noise, a skill he attributed to his long survival in Florida.

Recalculating his route to avoid the distinct noises of the Floridian Mountain Gator, Dream found himself forced to climb up a short but steep rockface to return to the path. Taking a swig from his water canteen, he carefully maneuvered his way up, pulling himself over and onto the ledge with a huff.

Wiping his brow, he stretched. "Better not get tired... there's a lot more climbing where that came from..." He felt at the side of his hiking backpack for the rappelling rope he had brought. The brief gaze down the hole had allowed him to estimate the length of the drop, and he had gotten some rope to help him descend. Speaking of...

Dream had arrived at the cave entrance. The sky was beginning to grow light... it was morning now. He had scheduled a few tweets to explain his temporary disappearance. He wondered what his fans were saying...

After a moment, he shook it off. He had more important things to do than ponder the thoughts of millions he would probably never get to know. Stepping into the cave, he peered down at the hole again. The depths still taunted him.

Carefully retrieving and fastening his rappel rope to a nearby rock, Dream clenched the other end tightly and took one last look at the pit. Without much light overhead, the drop was dark...

...but something about the unknown depths below filled Dream with Courage.

As the sun crested the horizon and began shining its light down on Florida, Dream began to descend into the unknown below.
