"Are you sure you're not just losing it?" Tony Thompson sat across from his vampire friend. The attic window had been draped carefully with an old black coat that served nicely to keep the pesky morning sun from shining through. Rudolph sat timidly in his makeshift coffin, his knees drawn to his chest and his head down. He wasn't sure himself, truth be told. The ordeal with Olga had taken so much out of him that he often wondered if his mind was playing tricks on him.
"Maybe you were just tired." Tony offered. "Your mind could be playing tricks on you." He reached out a reassuring hand to pat the vampire on the shoulder. He felt cold even through the over-sized shirt he had taken to wearing. It had belonged to Tony's dad in his younger days. It was black and patterned with huge red roses. Tony often joked that it made Rudolph look like an undead cowboy.
"I don't know." Rudolph said, glancing over at the old mirror. "I mean...it didn't feel like a dream or a halucination...but then again, even if it was I wouldn't know. That's the thing with halucinations isn't it?"
Tony shurgged."I don't know man, but when's the last time you ate something? You're looking even paler than usual, if that's even possible." Rudolph sighed. It had been a while since he'd 'eaten'. He didn't have any energy to hunt nor any desire to eat lately. Truthfully the thought of feeding made him cringe when he remembered Olga trying to sink her fangs into Tony.
"I'm alright." Rudolph said, but Tony wasn't convinced.
"What about a raw staek? I could bring you one? We have tons of staeks in the freezer. Dad wants to start barbequeing again. Even if it isn't even summer yet. I guess he's bored at home.
Rudolph shook his head.
"I'm alright, really. Don't worry yourself about me. How are my brother and sister?" He asked, trying to change the subject.
"Anna's great. I was with her for a while last night. Worried about you though. She says Gregory is interested in joining the vampire court. She suspects it has something to do with Dracula's daughter."Rudolph let out a mild chuckle.
"Laura the vivacious? I thought as much."
"Laura the vivacious?" Tony looked at him quizzically.
"Vampire titles." Rudolph explained. "We all have them if we earn them. My sister is Anna is Coragous."
"What's your title?"
"Rudolph the valient. They're rather similar, hers and mine."
"It's because you guys are similar." Tony snickered. It was true, in both face and mind, Rudolph and Anna were very alike, although not exactly. Anna was more thoughtful, rational and strategic whereas Rudolph relied more on intution, emotion and luck. Tony, who was a bit of a nerd often referred to them as 'Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff' respectively. After a few more moments of catching up, Tony heard his mother call him downstairs for breakfast and he hurried down, leaving Rudolph to rest. He really was tired. The incident from the night before had set him very on edge, but now that it was daytime, although you wouldn't know from the look of the attic, Rudolph felt more at ease. He settled down into the mass of clothes and curled up.
"Fancy that." He muttered to himself. "A vampire afraid of the night."
He fell into an uneasy sleep, his dreams plagued with images of eyes peering through the darkness and cackling wicked girls threatening to tear out his heart. When he awoke, it was after dark and the attic was pitch black. Rudolph pulled the coat from the window to allow the moonlight in. He didn't need it, but it somehow felt more comforting having a world to look out on, rather than siting isaolated in the dark little room. He glanced hesitantly at the mirror, he didn't dare go near it again after what he'd seen, even if it was a halucination. He crept to a far corner of the attic, where there were a few more boxes stacked against the wall. He hadn't looked in those yet. Perhaps he could find something to pass the time. However, he had scarecely made his way across the room when he felt it once again...the feeling of being watched.
