"When there is nearly nothing left of me,
Will you follow the pieces of my shattered soul to the ends of the earth,
Just to experience it all over again?"Cold.
Why am I so cold?
The light material covering my shoulders does nothing to protect me from the harsh winter air.The moonlight illuminates my finger tips in the clearing of the trees, as I, with childlike curiosity, look closely at them.
The trees rustle close behind me, stopping my curious movements as the cold air sits heavy in my lungs.
Something is wrong.
Suddenly, I am laying down in the snow on my back.
No, I am not laying down, I was pushed.
Who...or what, pushed me?
Cold fingertips against my cheek.
My eyes are shut tight.Running down to my neck, where my light gown covers my collarbones.
Mother will be so upset with me for playing out here at night and ruining my nightgown.
Jolting upright, I gasp.
Not a soul in sight.
I really should have worn warmer clothes. My hand goes up to my cheek without a thought about it. Who had touched my cheek? Or had I imagined it?
Mother tells me my imagination gets the best of me, and as a young lady of seventeen I shouldn't waste my time day dreaming.
That I should be learning to be the best possible wife for Lord Lukas, who I have been promised to marry.
Although, he is not the one I love, he is the one my family had promised to me to.I promised my love to my dear Arthur, and he promises to take me away from here before my birthday comes in the spring.
A smile drapes my lips as I think of his beautiful eyes, his laugh, him.
My true everything.Pushing myself up, I notice my fingertips are numb.
Redness blossoming on my cheeks and nose from the cold as I sigh, watching my breath float momentarily in the night air before disappearing completely."Help me!"
The sudden shriek makes me stumble to my feet, my eyes wide as I scan the tree line for the source of the voice.
"No!" It shrieks again.
"H-hello?" I whisper to the trees, my eyes desperately searching for someone.
"HELP ME-" they scream again, sounding more desperate, but it is cut off suddenly. This time instead of succumbing to my fear, and against my better judgement, I run straight towards the source.
The sources voice becoming silent suffocates me as I run, fearing I am too late.
"IM COMING!" I yell, my heart racing in my chest as I fly through the trees, snow gently falling and landing in wet particles on my cheeks and forehead.
Reaching a small clearing, I slow my pace, and walk forward slowly.
It's the cliff.How was I so naive?
It's the exact same cliff my elder sister threw herself off of when I was just a child of 5.
My breathing comes out in puffs as I try to catch my breath.
Reaching the edge of the cliff I look down and imagine watching her fall again, just as I did as a girl.
Her hair flowing as she spread her arms... and just..No. Stop it. Don't think about it.
I close my eyes and wrap my arms around my own shaking form. Allowing myself to mourn the life of my sister I barely got to know, I sob for a moment. Tears leaving cold trails down my cheeks.
I need to get home.
Turning around I am startled by his eyes.
Stepping back in shock I almost loose my footing and fall as I hear pieces of the cliff edge slip off, As he steps towards me.
A cruel smile on his lips.
"Lennox.." he whispers, and I whimper.
"Oh don't be afraid my darling girl." He speaks lowly
My arms tighten around myself subconsciously , covering my body from his wondering, menacing eyes.
He takes another step closer to me, cocking his head to the side, as he smiles even wider, which seems nearly impossible.
"Help me!" I scream.
He ignores my outburst and the tears on my cheeks, and instead, his hand reaches up and he allows his fingertips to play with the edges of my long brown hair.
I slap his hand away, and realize it was a mistake to do so.
The smile never leaves his lips, but his eyes don't show the same joy as his smile; they show his true, horrible intentions with me. "D-don't touch me." I whisper, almost silently."Don't be afraid darling." He whispers, grabbing my wrist harshly, getting close to my ear as he grits his teeth.
I scream, but he slaps his other hand over my mouth, as he continues.
"You'll be with your sister soon."
"No!" I scream as his hands drop to my chest, and he pushes me hard. Before I can stop him, I am falling. The last moments of my life spent watching his cruel smile as I fall, down... down.. down..
"HELP ME-" I scream, but it is cut off suddenly.Just as suddenly as my descent began, it's over.
I am standing above myself. My neck at a angle that is just.. wrong. My skin growing pale and cold as the blood drips from behind my head onto the rocks.
Drip. Drip. Drip.I should be repulsed.
I should be crying.
I should be confused. But for some ungodly reason, I am not.
As I stare down at myself, or what I used to be, I feel almost nothing.I never realized how much nothing really feels like too much.
"IM COMING!" I hear lightly in the distance, but perhaps it's just my mind playing tricks.
As the blood continues to pour from the wound, mixing with the waves lapping at my broken body, I realize something.
Cold.
Why am I so cold?
