the raven-haired boy quietly closed the door to his apartment complex. the atmosphere surrounding him was hushed, so quiet that a pin could be heard if dropped. his brother was not in his room as per usual, which pushed his decision to stealthily sneak out of his house, for no particular reason if you asked him, aside from him just having his mind clogged with mindless thoughts that kept him from getting an ounce precious sleep. so much had happened to the boy and he felt like he just needed to step out to draw out some much needed fresh air.
junkyu glanced down at his phone to check the time as the elevator steadily rode the male down to the lobby of his apartment, grimacing as the harsh blue light shone in his direction.
"3:24 am..." he muttered under his breath as he stepped out of the building. the air was cold as the wind breezes through the male's overheated face. the streets were empty as if no sight of life existed aside from the occasional lights seeping through curtained windows of night-owls who regularly stayed past such times.
the boy proceeded to move his legs to where ever he could, feet simultaneously prodding through the uneven concrete road. he really didn't know where he was going if he was being honest, just walking to anywhere he could in a means to clear his mind of all the thoughts running through his head.
several minutes into mindlessly treading his old running sneakers through the solemn streets, he ended up at the park yet again. he always seemed to end up there, did he? junkyu shrugged as he turned the direction to the park to sit at his usual spot, despite how dangerous it may be at night. passing through the shadows illuminating from lamposts, he had noticed a familiar patch of dirty blonde hair resting atop a tall, lanky male hunched over the grass surrounding a miniature pond in the park. the male didn't seem to notice junkyu's presence before he softly called out his name, causing the said male to turn around in surprise and slight fear.
"what are you doing here hyung?" junkyu added as he sat down beside his older brother. seunghun looked back down to emit a light scoff, "i couldn't stay there any longer. just went out to get some fresh air." junkyu smiled before replying a short, "same here." before the two sat in silence, staring at the still crystal waters as various koi fish swayed around in their slumber.
"so how have you been? it's been a while since we've sat down together alone." the oldest turned to his brother. junkyu heaved a sigh as he looked at seunghun, his eyes showing nothing but exhaustion. seunghun looked into those eyes with pity as a fit of growing anger ignites towards himself. he felt horrible for neglecting his brother for his own sake, unknowingly thinking junkyu would be fine on his own.
the blonde snapped out of his thoughts after hearing junkyu mutter a soft, "i'm just tired, hyung." seunghun felt heartbroken for his brother who had to constantly put up these walls to mask his real emotions. the taller then leaned in to pull his brother in for a tight hug after hearing a muffled sniffle emit out of his mouth.
"i know it's hard right now, but i promise you i would do anything to make it better, promise."
"no... don't worry about me hyung. i'll be fine."
"shut up junkyu, i know you're not. i just want to help...."
"i know, i just want you to worry about yourself instead of me. i'm not weak you know?" junkyu pulled away to look up at seunghun with a frown. the elder returned the look with a small smile before looking back at the pond. he ponders for a moment before thinking of an idea.
"do you want to live with me in my dorm?"
junkyu turned to him with a shocked expression. "n-no! you really don't have to! i'd be a burden to your dorm mates and-" seunghun cut his brother off with a hearty laugh, a laugh that junkyu hadn't heard for a long time.
