Present Day 2015

Taking a pan out of the oven, the house was filled with the aroma of vanilla. Thank God my curly fro was up in a bun and out of my face. In the background, my baby sister continues to talk about needing someone to help with food preparation for the ministry. Sophia wasn't really planning to be involved in the Tea Party our director had been planning for months and as usual, something fell through the cracks. It just so happen to have landed in her lap to be in charge of the food. Make no mistake Sophia loves cooking and baking. Some would say it's her gift... no, her passion.

"Earth to Sophia." Rosalin stood in front of her, snapping her finger to get Sophia's attention. "Are you listening to me?" Her brow creased in frustration, which then had Sophia doing the same thing."Yes, I heard you." She moved around her to start on the order of sandwiches that needed to be ready by this afternoon, which meant Sophia only has about an hour and a half to have it ready.

"Okaaaaay, so can you do it or not?"

"Rosalin, you know I don't mind helping out sometimes. It's just that I have other things that need my attention." She responded while cutting the edges off of the sandwiches and neatly arranging them in the pan. Wiping her hands Sophia moved around the kitchen collecting garnish to add a small touch to the pan.

Rosalin moved to block her and Sophia stared her down with the most intimidating look she could muster. She loves her sister. Rosalin is a smart, bright, and very sharp woman who is very very persistent; yet in this instance, her persistence is getting on Sophia's nerves. She doesn't seem to know how to take 'NO' for an answer.

Sophia sighed, putting her hands on her curvy hips. Rosalin is not skinny but not heavy either. Sophia thought to herself. 'I could easily move her up out of my way' . She contemplated on doing so. Sophia considered herself a strong independent black woman. When you look at her, she stood at 5'5. Smooth chocolate skin, glasses sitting on top of her nose slightly upturned, and curvy body. She has never struggled with body image what so ever. Sophia had to shake herself out of her reverie and answer her sister so she can get this order done.

"Okay! I will do it," she said, " but... I'm going to need some help. I refuse to be stuck doing this by myself." Rosalin with the biggest grin says, "Thank you!" Rosalin quickly hugs and kisses, Sophia. "Okay, I gotta go. Love you, bye." Sophia watched as she quickly walks out of the kitchen and just like that she disappears upstairs out of sight. She shook her head and continued preparing the order for her client. Once that was finished she checked the time.

I have enough time to run upstairs take my shower, get dressed, and by the time I finish they should be here, she thought to herself. It's noon and the client hasn't shown up yet. Sophia was putting finishing touches on her makeup and still has not heard anything from them yet. Whatever the reason for their tardiness she was hoping they still show up cause she really doesn't have space. Plus her mom feels like she needs to charge anyone that is a no call, no show and Sophia is not trying to run off clients she's trying to gain clients.

She was applying more gloss on her lips when her mom peeped in. "Ooh, la la! Where are you going?" She was grinning from ear to ear.

"Calm down, it's not a date."

"You could have fooled me. You're doing your makeup and dressed as if you have an interview. I'm just saying you look, fabulous baby." She came in and started dancing.

"Go snatch 'em up." Sophia laughed as her mom grabbed her hand that still held the gloss and danced with her around the bathroom. "Mom! Stop I have to finish this." The doorbell rang. her eyes widen; Sophia quickly turned back to the mirror to check her face.
