My mother told me that the best way to meet people my age was to go out and socialize. I refused to, until she practically kicked me out. I had no clue where to go since I just moved in three days ago, but my mother insisted I meet friends before I started school. I figured I wouldn't go too far from my apartment (in case I forgot my way back and get lost). I took a walk on the main road, and nothing really seemed 'my age group', until I found a bunch of teenagers hanging out at a bar called 'Benny's'. I debated about going in since it was a bar, but I was already a good distance from my apartment and I didn't want to go much further. I walked in anyways. Just because you go in a bar, doesn't mean you have to drink. A few people looked up at the ring of the doorbell at glanced at me. It was a sort of small town, so it must've been one of those places where everybody knew everybody. And I wasn't anybody anyone knew. I sat down at an empty stool a seat away from some other people. On my other side was a pool table a few boys were playing at. It was pretty crowded with people. A man, with the name tag of 'Benny' walked up to me.
"What can I get ya, darlin?"
"Just a water." I shrugged. He gave me a strange look.
"Are ya sure? Ya don't want a coke or anything?"
"No thanks." I smiled shyly. Do people not drink water here or something? Jeez, that was weird. First words I ever said probably already made me look weird. I was doing great.
"I think you're a cheater Rusty-James!" One of the boys at the pool table hollered. I turned my attention to them.
"You know I dont cheat, Smokey. You're just bad at pool."
"Lies." 'Smokey' pointed his pool stick at 'Rusty-James'. There was two other boys that were with them, not playing pool. One was in a big jacket and looked quite scary. The other one was scrawny and lean and wore glasses. I bet his name was 'Paul" or somethin. One of the pool players were struggling, the one I assumed to be Smokey. The other had a dirty grin on his face, who must've been Rusty-James. I wondered if he actually was cheating. I wasn't watching long enough to know.
"Interested, miss?" The scary looking one said to me. I looked at him in shock. I wasn't sure what to say.
"Uh- No. I was just-" I felt my face heat up. The Rusty-James boy looked at me. Boy, was he good lookin. His dark hair was pushed back by a tied bandana. He wore a tight, white tank top which showed his good build. And he has these dark eyes, that I could look into forever, but that'd be creepy. Rusty-James gave me a smile.
"Wanna play? Smokey's lost twice already."
"Shut up." Smokey rolled his eyes.
I smiled shyly. "I don't know how to play." I felt really embarrassed, I wanted to run off.
"It's alright, doll. I'll teach ya," He snatched Smokey's pool stick out of his hand and held it out for me. I got up out of my seat and went over to him, getting the pool stick. All of his friends were staring at me and I felt quite uncomfortable, but it was better than sitting at the bar alone.
I walked over next to Rusty-James and he set the pool balls into the traingle thing so they were all set up. He taught me how to strike the white ball and which 'stripes and solids' to hit. He had to teach me how to angle the pool stick, which included several wrapping his arms around mine. I almost died when I heard wolf-whistles from his friends.
"Oh shut it." Rusty-James snapped at them.
When I thought I had everything down, we played a game. I was struggling a lot, so he helped me out but Rusty-James still won drastically.
"Well, I'll never win if you don't go easy on me." I laughed.
"Alright, alright." He grinned. We played another game and he won again. But I was improving. We pratically stayed there all day, playing pool. I was introduced to new people, weird and normal, girl and boy, good and bad. I told Rusty-James about how I was new to town and such nd he told me somethings I would 'need to know to get around'. At the end of the day, Rusty-James offered to take me home and I agreed.
"So where do you live at?"
"Uh, River Appartments. I think thats the name," I replied.
"Oh! Yeah, I know where that is. It aint to far from mine.:
"Where do you live at?" I repeated his question.
"It's down the road and to the right. The huge ol' appartment complex," He gestured his hand in the direction.
"I dont think I've seenit yet." I blushed, a bit embarassed.
"You'll see it soon." Rusty-James said, a bit dirtly. I felt my face heat up as he lughed. We arrived at my appartment since it wasn't that far and he dropped me off.
"Hey, I don't think I ever cuaght your name."
"It's (y/n)." I replied with a smile.
"Pretty name. I'm Rusty-James. I'll see you 'round, doll." He gave me a smirk and walked off without another word.
"Bye!" I called out. Boy, he was cute and confident. I went inside hoping I would see Rusty-James again soon.
