Prolouge - The New Clan
"We have to stop seeing each other." A ginger tabby tom was facing a grey she-cat. As he spoke, the grey she-cat made a sharp inhale of breath, as if alarmed by what he'd just said, but he continued, "We're warriors now. This isn't just Gullpaw and Flamepaw. It's Gullfeather and Flamestep." The grey she-cat's panic only seemed to grow by this.
"Flamestep, hear me out. We- I- can't stop." She raised her head, and the ginger tabby, Flamestep, met her worried gaze.
"For the sake of our Clans, Gullfeather-" He began, but the she-cat interrupted him.
"You don't understand." Gullfeather wailed. She was distressed, and Flamestep couldn't bare it.
He sighed, then whispered, "What is it?"
"Flamestep, I'm expecting your kits." she explained, and they fell silent. Flamestep dropped his gaze. It was a while before Flamestep broke the silence.
"I'm sorry. Really." He began, "The last thing we should do is to stop seeing each other." When Gullfeather said nothing, Flamestep continued, "We have to do something."
"What exactly? When you stayed in SkyClan after you were injured and your medicine cat was sick, it didn't exactly... go well."
Flamestep met her gaze hopefully. He opened his jaws to speak, but Gullfeather was quicker.
"Don't even think about it. You know I can't join ThunderClan. Not after Jaycry."
Flamestep sighed, "You're right. Redstar's been in a bad mood since Jaycry died, and SkyClan accused ThunderClan. And it's not just that; Sunleap was caught meeting with Songpaw of WindClan. Looked like he'd been doing it for a while." He sighed sadly, then added, "His own son, for StarClan's sake."
Gullfeather nodded in response, "We mustn't loose hope. There must be something."
"You're right." Flamestep sighed, then smiled, "You're so optimistic. Oh, Gullfeather..." He buried his head in her fur.
"Hold on, what did you say about Sunleap?" Gullfeather sat up, as if she'd thought of something.
"Sunleap? He was caught meeting a WindClan cat." Flamestep tipped his head, confused. What does this have to do with anything.
"I think I know what we'll do." Gullfeather whispered.
Flamestep sat up, "You do?"
"We'll create a new Clan."

Flamestep waited beside Sunleap, a yellow tabby tom with yellow eyes. On the previous day, he and Gullfeather had gone around the Clans, announcing that they'd create a new Clan: FeatherClan; and any cat could join if they wished. Several cats had been interested in joining; especially Jaycry's kits; Cloudkit, Thunderkit and Dovekit. After a long argument, they'd been accepted. They were now playing with each other, and Sunleap was watching them with interest, after all, Jaycry was his sister.
Flamestep heard footsteps as Gullfeather, followed by her sister, Flypool, a medicine cat, joined them. Gullfeather smiled, and sat beside him.
Flypool, meanwhile, padded over to the kits. "You should get some sleep. It'll be a long day."
"No way! We had to go to sleep early last night." Thunderkit mewled in complaint.
Flypool purred, "Alright."
The next cats to come were Blazepaw, Bluepaw and Songpaw of WindClan. Songpaw ran over to Sunleap and they sat together, which made Blazepaw roll his eyes.
It wasn't long before the last cats came; Mudpaw of ShadowClan, joined by Ivstem, Ripplepelt and Splashfoot of RiverClan.
"Is this everyone?" Flamestep asked, and when Gullfeather dipped her head, he added, "Let's go."

FeatherClan made their new camp in an almost 'mountainous' forest area - there was no snow - but it was high up. Their territory was near SkyClan and ShadowClan's territory. Flamestep had been appointed leader seen as Gullfeather couldn't because she'd been expecting kits. He decided to make Sunleap deputy. But before he could appoint the apprentices' new mentors, it began to get dark, and they decided to spend the rest of the day setting up the camp.
