2 years later...

"Honey!" Called a pretty young man with luscious plump lips and slightly shorter than Taehyung. Suavely, he smiled as he walked up to his husband, all caught up contemplating the portrait before him. They were in a museum of contemporary art.

"I think it looks lovely. Doesn't it?" Jimin purred blithely, resting his head onto Taehyung's shoulder, a look of admiration in his cat-like eyes. "I'm not sure I've ever asked you this but..." He began, rather unsure "Who's the boy in the picture?" He asked, pointing at the painted image he was faced with, one of a creature of inhumane beauty and charm. Jeongguk. How could Taehyung ever forget.

It took him some time to answer "Just an old lover of mine." He uttered, voice soft upon recalling the precious moments he spent with the brunet.

"W-Where's is he now?" Jimin wondered, wide-eyed and becoming even more curious.

"I don't know." Taehyung replied, feeling lost and confused at once "I haven't seen him since that one summer I spent in Venice. About two years before we got engaged." He said, a lump forming in his throat. It had been long since he last saw him. Way too long. And he had changed from that point onwards, no trace of the darkness that threatened to tear him apart as though he had been depleted, deprived of all that was wrong with him. He turned into a brand new person, able to fulfill all his wishes and desires.

He was proud of how far he had come, now exhibiting one of his works in an actual museum, an actual dream come true. Even his parents stopped seeing him as a waste of space after so many years of unfair hatred. Even better, they didn't bat a lid when he announced he was going to marry a man, that is, Jimin.

"Taehyung..." A voice called, kindred in sound to the ineffable blowing of the wind, oh-so breathy and soft. "Taehyung please look at me."  The voice repeated. Taehyung thought it to be part of the indistinct chattering of the crowd circling him to both sides. But no, it did seem to accrue from somewhere else. "I'm right here, can't you see me?" The sound continued. Oddly, it looked like it was coming from the portrait itself out of all places. How strange.

Taehyung reached out a hand to touch it even when he was the only person able to hear that noise, that distant calling. After all, it was all in his head. It always had been.

Fine
