"D'you think I can bring my iPod to Hogwarts? I can't live without music..." I sighed while packing my trunk, seeing as I was leaving the next day.
"In my time those didn't exist so I don't know, why don't you try sneaking it into your bag and you'll see?" Suggested my dad, so that's what I did.
I was really excited about going to Hogwarts, but my anxiety was starting to sink in, what if I didn't make any friends? What if I sucked at doing magic? I tried hard not to worry about it, but the thoughts didn't leave my head. My self confidence had gone down over the past few years and I really didn't like school, but I have to admit it was a boring muggle school, learning about magic would probably be more interesting.
But then again, I was still myself and I always found it hard to make friends as I'm not very talkative... I'd definitely miss my one and only best friend, Millie, but I knew she'd be well off without me anyways.
In the end I just decided to go watch some TV, knowing it would be the last time in a long while, of course there weren't any in my new magical school."Bye mum! I'm gonna miss you" I kissed Eleanor goodbye while Tony heaved my luggage into the taxi's trunk. Since my mum was a muggle dad would show me the way to the Hogwarts Express.
"Where's Max?" He asked with an annoyed face, my brother should have been here by now.
"Maxwell! You greedy pig I don't want to miss the train" I whined at him when I found him munching some snacks in the kitchen.
He tried to kick me and ended up chasing me all the way to the car, where dad exclaimed "There you are! Let's go." My hungry brother sighed as he had not finished eating, but there was no going back now.
When we arrived at Kings Cross station I already knew to look in between platforms 9 and 10 and led the way there, but then I didn't know which wall I was supposed to run into.
"Hey can you go first so I see how it is?" I asked into the air, expecting one of the boys to answer.
"Sorry Lucy I'm in a hurry for work but Max will show you the way. Bye sweetie love you, please write soon!" Tony replied as he kissed me goodbye.
So I stood there waiting for my big brother to pass, being left alone surrounded by muggles. I closed my eyes, gathered my courage and ran straight into the wall. A few moments later I opened my eyes, amazed to see the gleaming Hogwarts Express, so beautiful in it's crimson red with already some steam parting from the black chimney.
I looked around for my brother as I didn't know where I was supposed to take my luggage, or if there was a special wagon for first years, or if there was any sort of controller I should go to, but there was no sign of him. He had probably gone off to his friends and forgot about me. Git.
I saw a blond girl who looked about my age heaving her trunk into a wagon and decided to follow her.
"Hi I'm new mind if I join you? I don't know anyone and you also seem new." I asked kindly to the girl, standing by the doorframe.
"Sure! I'm Dewi by the way" she replied, and I felt a sense of relief flowing through me, glad she hadn't rejected me.
"Nice to meet you, I'm Lucy." The girl smiled at me and her lovely blue eyes twinkled, surely she was also glad she didn't have to spend the whole train trip alone.
We talked all about ourselves throughout the whole ride and shared some laughs.
Somewhere in between, the Honeydukes lady arrived.
"Anything from the trolley dears?"
We both didn't hesitate to pick a handful of sweets, including Pumpkin Pasties, Chocolate Frogs, Bertie Botts Every-Flavoured Beans, and some more. We mixed and swapped them and shared it all. I had the bad luck of tasting a rotten egg flavoured bean, but my new friend got a vomit flavoured one.
When it started to get dark we changed into our Hogwarts robes, knowing we'd be arriving soon. I was jumping with excitement when we saw the castle for the first time through the window. It was even more majestic than I had imagined it, so big and with such a magical look!
Upon our arrival we were greeted by a giant man who was yelling "Firs' years! Firs' years this way please." I was astonished to see a little boy with black hair who went running to him and gave him a hug, I'd be terrified of getting crushed, the man was so big!
Our bundle of newbies was ushered by the big man into little boats, and I lost sight of Dewi. I shared a boat with 4 other kids, and surprisingly it started to move on it's own. Wake up Lucy you're at Hogwarts of course it's enchanted! I love magic. I felt like I was in a dream, drifting across a lake, inside a small boat that moved by magic, with a beautiful starry sky above me, and the majestic castle of Hogwarts in front. It was the most spectacular view, and I took a long time to realize my mouth was wide open.
