If you have noticed many people at school get bullied, either for the way the dress, talk, or basically anything they know will bug you. The way our society is now a days is that people will judge you over the littlest things. Such as if you have had sex you're a "slut", but if you haven't you're such a "priss". If you have depression or cut you are a "attention seeker", if you do not you "shouldn't keep you're emotions in". If you think well of yourself "you think to much about your ego", yet if you don't like yourself than "just love yourself it isn't that hard". As soon as someone actually kills themselves, the people will say "they were amazing and they will be missed", when they do not really mean it, they just say it to become more popular or for attention. Most of the time when people have depression no-one ever sees it. When someone gets bullied or hurt emotionally they will normally try to hide it so they will not get judged. When in reality holding in there emotions just hurts them more. Holding in emotions just makes you like a volcano, all the emotions just explode out of you when you cant take it anymore. For some people it is easier to hold in their emotions but that's not how it should be, because for a lot of people they think suicide is the only answer. It is not, there are so many other ways to deal with pain. Sometimes myself I wonder if anyone would miss me, but I realize there is so much more to life than dying. There are family, friends, future relationships and so much more that you would miss out on. Many people wonder if anyone would miss them if they ended everything? And the answer to that question is "yes", people would miss you so much. Trust me there is always going to be someone who need you in there life. Yet again our society is horrible , people never understand how much words actually hurt. People will call you fat, ugly, worthless,a whore, slut, and tell you to go kill yourself because you mean nothing to anyone. When these things aren't true, you are amazing and you mean something to at least one person. Here is another problem; schools normally don't care, they normally care about grades, assignments and stupid sheets that don't mean anything, and tests that define how smart you are and what your future is, and that's not how it should be. They should care about bullying and suicide, when all they do is put up stupid anti-bullying signs (like that will do anything), they think that the bully will see that and think "well damn, now I cant", no that's not how it will be, they do not care. Schools always think that that the main cause of any mental illness is social media but really it is the amount of stress and assignments that we get handed each day. We are also trying to juggle exercising, having a social life, and being able to relax. Its not the easiest trying juggle everything at once. What schools need to realize is that a lot of students have mental illnesses and we don't want to talk to our guardians about it. Teachers expect every student to be perfect when we are defiantly not perfect. A lot of parents blame us for being rude by hanging out with our friends, going out, and being on our phones , we just try to do normal things as a teenager. They say we a attitude or talking back when we are just trying to explain our sides during arguments or conversations. Majority of parents either try to compare us to other kids or to themselves when they were our age. They don't understand that times have changed and even good kids will act up. Parents also need to understand that we do care what we look like and we do care about social media. As teenagers we will be moody, have a attitude and will want to stay in our rooms 24/7. The main problem with society is that they expect everyone to be perfect when no one is. There are many kids who debate killing themselves to make the pain go away and because of what people say. People who bully other people do not realize how much words actually hurt and trust me they hurt like hell. Take it from someone who is being bullied, it makes you cry everyday and debate everything. When people cry everyday it is because they have no other way to deal with their pain. When someone expresses their feelings, there is a worry that they will be judged for it. A lot of time people think that depression is always crying or being upset, it is not always that. Sometimes it is being upset, but it is also the feeling of emptiness and nothingness, but it is also the feeling of being completely dead inside or wanting to be dead. Kids now a days are cruel and horrible people, you shouldn't call people names or assume things because of rumors that arent true. The way school should be is that you could actually talk to counselors but you cannot, because they will call your parents when you ask them not too. They always say they will do something but they never do because they dont care. I have one thing to say: "society is fucked up" and there is nothing we can do about it because no one cares about anyone but themselves. -Hannah Warder -9th grade
