Silverware hitting ceramic plates fills the air as random, pointless conversations take place across the table. In Avery's mind, it begins to make sense of the events that had taken place earlier. She mentally takes note of how her life is going to change this upcoming Monday when all of her colleagues find out about the events that have transpired. Avery Wright, or better known by Dr. Wright, is a well-known physician in the seventh ward of Faith Hospital. Right after getting her undergraduate studies, she attended the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and is now in her fourth year of residency. She didn't think this was going to be how her life turned out, she was more than happy with the current path she's taking. It's not long before Avery is continuously lost in her thoughts when she notices her best friend's hand is resting on her arm and they whisper in her ear. "I think an old friend of ours has just shown up," Elliot speaks in a hushed tone. The doctor looks up and locks eyes with her unforgettable past.
Crouching behind a fence, Avery waits for a big enough group of people to blend in with. Quickly, she hops up from her position just in time as a group of students unlock the dorm halls door. She races past the front desk to make sure that the worker doesn't see her. At Truth University, students of opposite dormitories are not allowed in the other building after hours. If caught, you could have disciplinary points on your transcript. The only problem with that was, Avery didn't care. She quietly managed to sneak past the worker who, lucky for her, she was busy with a couple of students who had lost their key. She goes past the elevator and makes it to the stairs, she's only taking the stairs to the 2nd floor. She doesn't want to be caught waiting around in the lobby. By the time she makes it to the second floor, she is barely out of breath, thanks to basketball conditioning. By the time she made it out the stairwell, she was able to just slide into the elevator right before they closed and was able to press the button reading 6. Avery couldn't hold in her excitement anymore, her girlfriend had just gotten back from a student teaching internship in Paris. They were hardly able to speak to each other because of the different timezones and their exhausting schedules.
The ding of the elevator pulls her out of her thoughts and she wasn't able to stop her feet from guiding her to her favorite dorm room where she spent most of her time. She was able to reach the door, but instead of just barging in, she wanted to knock to make sure her girlfriend was even in there. She raises her fist to the door and creates two rhythmic knocking sounds. Less than a second later the door swings open and she is met with an unpleasant face.
"Ew," said Tanner, her girlfriend's roommate and sadly, best friend. "She's in her room," she turned away with an eye-roll leaving the guest in the hallway. Avery ignores the negative attitude and glides into the suite, closing the door behind her. She makes her way to the back of the suite to a familiar room and quietly opens the door. On the bed, her girlfriend, Micah, is sound asleep. Assuming that she had just gotten in because her bags were still sitting full and untouched. Smoothly, she crawls into the bed and wraps her arms around the shorter woman. Micah jumps a little, but when she noticed who it was, she simply smiled and tangled her limbs with the other person. With the room so quiet, the only noise that could be heard would be the students outside who don't want to go to their rooms just yet. A small whisper makes its way through the room that makes both of them smile.
"Hey, I love you," lovingly announced by Andrea who was pulling her fiance out of her thoughts. She widely smiles at her lover and kisses her on the cheek as she gets up from her chair, along with her best friend Elliot. They make their way to the few guests that have just shown up so that they could be greeted. With Micah not paying attention, she makes a small conversation with Tanner and says her terms of gratitude for coming. Soon, she makes contact with Micah. They stand and stare at each other for what felt like an eternity. They both give a once over to take in the fact that both of them have changed. Micah looks... better, in Avery's opinion. She looks different, but not in a bad way. She has a glow to her that she hasn't seen from her in a long time. Her body has filled out more and filled out in the right places. All the right places. She never would say this allowed, but Micah is the most beautiful woman that she has ever seen. Eventually, Micah leans in to give a hug to her old friend. They hold the position for a while before they release and hold eye contact. In a whisper tone, Micah says something that sends shivers down Avery's spine due to the fact that she hadn't heard her voice in years.
"Hey."
